Somebody gave me this recipe. It is probably online somewhere but I'll copy it here:
1.5 pounds meat (ground beef/turkey, chicken, salmon, ... no liver) 2 tablespoons coconut oil 2 cups fresh/frozen vegetables (carrots, peas, grean beans, ...) 2 cups spinach or kale 1/2 can black or red beans (I've used blackeye peas too) 1 large sweet potato or 1 can pumpkin (potato will work in a pinch) 3/4 cup quinoa or brown rice 2 cups water or low sodium broth Any supplements (I add 2000 mg turmeric and 2400 mg calcium with D-3) I've tried this recipe for a couple of months with our two 12 pound dogs. 1 batch lasts about 10 days. With bigger dogs and a bigger pot you can simply double the recipe. One of our dogs was called obese by our Vet so we've been carefully measuring their intake. One pup has lost 1 pound and the 'obese' one has lost 2 pounds. Their coats are shinier too (probably from the coconut oil). I also guess they like the variety as no batch is the same. I've even used 1/2 pound of bacon in a batch (cook grease out on low/medium heat in a separate pan, chop). Prepare however you like, but here is how I do it: I put everything except quinoa (even frozen meat and whole carrots) in a covered pot, with 1 cup of water/broth. Score the sweet potato or potato length wise so as to not end up with big pieces of skin. Cook on a low medium heat, just enough to get the water/broth boiling. After about 90 minutes everything can be chopped and mashed with a spatula. I then add the quinoa and the other cup of water/broth and cook for 40 more minutes. I let it cool in the fridge and measure and freeze servings the next day. I boil the calcium pills in water until they dissolve. When serving I add 1 tablespoon of kibble to help clean their teeth as they usually eat it last. Cheers |

I have done something simular. However I just par boiled the carrots & potatoes. Cooked rice served as a "side" Used purple or green cabbage which i just slice instead of spinach. I also left the meat RAW. Fed my three for over 7 years. One time I made one huge mistake bought those cheap roll of hamburger meat. What a mess in the room the dogs were sleeping in!!!
