Running on 4 cores of an i7-4771 (3.7 GHz) on a Win7 64-bit machine takes just under 33 minutes. The other 4 cores are not being used, so this is about like running on 4 full cores.
Running on 4 full cores of an i5-3550 (3.6 GHz) on an Ubuntu 16.04 machine (Linux 4.10.0.28) takes about 42 minutes. The speed of the Ivy Bridge core is not that much different than the Haswell core. So this seems to say that Windows is a little faster than Linux, unless the work units vary. I just checked the first ones that came along. |

Yes, they do vary. On my machine (2600K) anywhere from 32 minutes to 75 minutes.

Yes, they do vary. On my machine (2600K) anywhere from 32 minutes to 75 minutes. Well, on various machines, the valid returned took anywhere from 28 to 107 minutes.Luckily no such extreme shorties as with FAH...Ralf |

After rebooting the i5-3550 (Ubuntu) machine, I am now getting about 29 minutes per work unit. Maybe that has something to do with clearing out the CPU cache of the other apps (MCM, etc.) that I had placed on standby to run the MIP1 tasks, leaving more cache free. Or maybe it is just a new group with a shorter run time.
----------------------------------------But that it more what I would expect - a small advantage to Linux. I will have to run longer to see what the real averages are. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jim1348 at Aug 24, 2017 1:32:22 AM] |

You want stats? Watch this: http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/results/projet.py?projet=World+Community+Grid (Just select the exact WCG-subproject on the left menu bar you want to read about.) This is incredible! A great help for determining which projects are suitable for older machines. Thanks for sharing. |

Seeing the very first on Linux, at 1.6Ghz, 4 finished in just over 1 hour, batches 3,4,5,7. Got some running on Windows 10, at 3GHZ, with 1.75 hours and running, 15 minutes projected to finish. Is this a 'VINA like' experience? I crunched on the same hardware from 1 single batch (448) 10 jobs on Linux and 15 jobs on Windows 7. The cpu run times: Linux Minimum 2.03 hrs, Maximum 2.17 hrs and Average 2.092 hours Windows Minimum 2.00 hrs, Maximum 2.22 hrs and Average 2,11 hours |

Thanks for follow up... run times are all over the place from batch to batch it shows.

On my side, I dedicated two machines to MIP. Over the last two days:

Currently the trends are still evolving (in the wrong direction for the Linux machine). Today I woke up to find my dedicated Z3740 Tablet offline - Battery was at 0% and it suspended automatically.
----------------------------------------It was running MIP only since yesterday Apparently MIP uses a bit more power than the VINA-Sciences so the charger doesn't keep up. Keep that in mind. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Interesting, another poster wrote the device ran cooler with MIP1, where more power, is usually more heat. Maybe CPU efficiency plays a role too, truly no idea.
