I have gone through several OS installs on my Dell PowerEdge T110ii a few Ubuntu and now a new Windows 10 OS. I want to combine all the stats to my current device name id I have two other device names from the past for same PC. Total combined time of all id's is 6years,246days,10hrs,22min's,07sec

What you ask for is not possible. This question has been asked by many over the years. I have several installations for the same computers that I would have liked to merge as well. I have learned to transfer the directory from the old installation to the new to preserve the device ID. I think there is only one file that truly needs to be moved.

thanks will keep that in mind next time I do an OS install, perhaps if I just keep the computer name exactly the same the WCGrid servers will not know the difference and combine stats automatically. :)

I have many devices in my device history with the exact same device name, yet they are not the same device. It might be the host_cpid (cross project id) within the file C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml. I have just moved or saved the entire folder when re-installing or upgrading OS. I have always been crunching on a Windows OS; there may be complications if switching between Windows and Linux. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

Per the FAQ's, yes there are, there's 4-5 parameters checked when a clean install client says first time 'hi', in amongst 'Is it the same OS?' This this an automated process at WCG, where elsewhere this is partly manual [And some have tried to fool that system, so some safeties were added].

[I have always been crunching on a Windows OS; there may be complications if switching between Windows and Linux. Just for your information, I recently tried this (moving device profile from Windows to Linux) and it worked like a charm. So at least it is worth trying if you really do not want a new device in your list. ![]() |

@katoda (or anyone who knows),
----------------------------------------I'm planning to change OS from Win7 to Linux Mint on one of my crunchers. What was the steps you took to be able to "keep the same device"? I have done it previous on several machines with success but then it has always been Windows to Windows.

Since the science apps are obviously different, first you'd need to do is drain the tasks from the Windows install, then stop the client and make a backup. Then I'd imagine 1 or more control files need to be ported to the BOINC install on Linux, like e.g. account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml , in the right place, with the right ownerships and property settings. That Linux client must of course not be (never?) be started / to be stopped. I'd image the client_state.xml could come across too. Maybe in the Linux connectoid, set same LAN IP, BUT, it violates a lot such as WTH were previous results processed by if they ever need to reconcile problems. Picture the Windows machine did 1 or more Beta26, techs run analysis on results and go Vhat?

It did indeed run a bunch of the latest betas....
----------------------------------------To avoid any possible issues (for me and/or techs) I think it will be a new clean install. Pity on the device stats though, it is a dedicated 8-threader @4.2GHz.
