Have not made an in depth study of it, but the secure lock icon in Internet Explorer is grayed out when looking at WCG, and then my Hunting tool started mass failing to the point that opening IE 11 and every which way getting to WCG just gave a blank tab or a warning, asking if the address is correct in IE.
Suspending Avast for 10 minutes made things work, but then the full block returned. To emphasize, no other site, and some I know are highly protected by the very IBM 'Security Trusteer Rapport' program work fine. Am I willing to whitelist WCG. NO! There's some odd tracking warnings when approaching your site via a search engine, Bing to be precise, from those who peddle Windows. |

I could not recreate this issue on Windows 10. Do you have the same issue with other browsers?
Thanks, armstrdj |

Do you use the webshield feature? I noticed with it on they use some sort of a man in the middle method but according to the documentation they validate the remote certificate using the windows certificate store so it should validate it. On Windows 10 using the latest version of Avast it worked. Not sure why but I assume this is what is causing your issue.
Thanks, armstrdj |

Yes the webshield is always on. Default office uses IE7 engine, there's a registry hack to use 9, but the problem was replicated in standalone IE11. Pausing Avast skips straight past the issue, so that's what I'm doing momentarily.
http://www.getavast.net/how-to/disable-turn-off As noted before, though the article suggests whitelisting, I wont. Maybe MS fixes the certs for W8.1, but unlikely, or Avast fixes the issue unlikely... MS are now going as far as blocking W8 and 7 from using the newest processors as well, to harass Windows users to upgrade AND lose your privacy entirely, if there is any left at all when roaming the intertubes. Thx for looking into this, but fear it is what it is... stalemate. |

Microsoft lists end of support for 8.1 as 1/9/2018, so a fix from them isn't completely out of the question. But I suspect the problem is with Avast.
I'm not overly familiar with Avast, but I know McAfee has a site advisor that allows you to request reviews of a site as well as telling you current status as they see it. I've linked the one for WCG below. Maybe there's something similar for Avast? https://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/worldcommunitygrid.org |

Thx for looking into this, but fear it is what it is... stalemate. Bill, not bbover3, but the "As it so happens" type from the Tarantino movies, MS did a big overhaul on their Web Data interface for Office 2016-365 (subscribers only), where connections can now be qualified as public, private, organizational, none (Anonymous). Carefully treading, suddenly, the WCG connectoids offer username/password fields, where before these fields were greyed out in the old interface. This morning was already taken aback after last nights update to 8067.2018 that the Wizard interface which always required me to hit Import, Ok, Continue, did not show (it still exists, but is now buried in their hate-it, flat interface sidebar connectoids listing) and a green popup notice appeared with "We changed the Get data...ladidah... Got It?" Only offering OK as an exit option :(, where the previous update already had changed to indefinitely remember my credentials for WCG [Don't like it for good reason... no quick way to flip accounts during testing]. While exploring, did find in the deep crofts of the workbook that there was one last http s://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org lurking, swiftly changed to www, entirely unsure if anything was being funked up by this stray line. Anyways, something changed to the effect that nolonger a blank screen appears with moans of an illegal address... but what did it, beats me. ![]() |
