I have been a member for more than 11 years now. For more than 10 years I was advancing in the ranks of all three categories. Now I am falling back in results returned. I am maintaining my rank in cpu time so the only thing I can think as a reason is that there are a lot of members who have faster computers than mine. So they are getting a lot of results but not much cpu time. In the last 6 months, I have fallen more than 50,000 results behind where I once was and that was with me producing more than 50,000 results myself so the other members must be producing more than 100,000 results but not enough cpu time to pass me there. I am now more interested in pad computers and will not invest in more desktops. But in the meantime, I am still in the top 500 in both cpu time and points.

Congrats on your longtime dedication and position on WCG. Falling back is something happens over time, as transistors get smaller and silicon manufacturers find ways of improving their craft. If your not improving your setups every few years, you will fall behind. Luckily there is a reward component for cpu time in addition to raw crunching power on WCG.
Anyway your contribution is important even if its not on top notch hardware, but at some point you have to look at whether the electric cost is worth keeping an old slow machine going. |

The number of results returned isn't a useful statistic. Not between projects (apples and oranges) or often even the same project. You may be falling back because of SCC1. A lot of people are running it and it has short work units.

Now I am falling back in results returned. Excuse me for contradicting you, but you are most definitely NOT falling behind... you are advancing . To fall behind is to not participate. You have been contributing to WCG for 11 years and that is absolutely great. As for comparing yourself to others in any of the categories, I wouldn't be worried about that, since you are still returning results which is the important part. You have been a solid collaborator for 11 years and that is what counts. Thanks & keep crunching.CJSL Gotta keep crunching, there's a world to save !!! |

What CJ said,
----------------------------------------Plus, I am err, advancing slower now too. One day, I will build another rig, but I have moving coming up, vacation, and HOPEFULLY full time work. ![]() |
