Member password requirement updates

Hello all,

We have revised the password requirements to now allow "special" characters, as well as up to 100 characters (from 32 characters). The new password requirements are the following:

  • 6 characters minimum
  • 100 characters maximum
  • May use alphanumeric and "special" characters (!@#$%^&*_+=:;, etc...)

These changes have no effect on members' current passwords.

Thank you for your support,
ErikaT

Re: Member password requirement updates

Funny how I last posted about the right square bracket, ] , being allowed (per the list) in the member name, but the left square bracket, [ , not allowed (per the list), though a user was employing both , yet both are not allowed in the password allowed character list... an omission. whistling

Rob,
The list above of 'special' characters allowed for passwords is not exhaustive, it is just an example of some 'special' characters that are allowed. There are additional 'special' characters, besides the ones listed, that are allowed.

Regarding member names, both the right and left brackets are allowed. More information about member name guidelines can be found here. If you have a specific issue with a member name, please use the Contact Us form.

Thank you,
ErikaT

Re: Member password requirement updates

See no reason to use the 'Contact Us form' when the post I made is quite clear, the below a reproduction of what's printed when using an illegal character

Username can only contain letters, numbers, space and the special characters .@ !]_-

But maybe this list is not exhaustive either and an suffixed etc is missing tongue

Anyway, the special characters in password, where one or the other has moaned about being allowed at other BOINC projects and not at WCG, *MAY* or may not have resolved the matter, at the very least with a future, no hope at all, BAM compatibility in mind, at the very least would have expected [yes I know, don't expect anything] that would have been part of the implementation. May-be an update to 'help', an augmentation of the existing would give me peace of mind, never mind the others as right now it shows

"What are the Member Name Guidelines?
World Community Grid uses unique member names for each member who joins. It is used in combination with your password to log on to the World Community Grid website where you can change update your profile, and check on your contribution to the projects. Your member name must be between 6 and 30 characters. It is recommended that you choose something other than your real name or your email address. Also, World Community Grid will reject/remove Member Names which it considers objectionable to our community. Your member name can contain alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), and !, -, _, [, ], and spaces. "

But surely it's another case of it having been updated, just not made it's way to my outback IPv4 address biggrin

(don't you get tired of me ;)

Sek, it's users like you who help to improve the system whilst at the same time keeping the WCG techs/admin on their toes. Please don't change biggrin

Rob,
Thank you for clarifying your post. I understand you are saying there is an issue with the error validation message displayed when entering in a member name that does not meet the requirements. This member name error validation messaging issue is being added to the backlog.

The FAQ regarding member names is accurate, it's just the error validation message that needs to be revised.

Thanks,
ErikaT

Re: Member password requirement updates

The new password requirements are...100 characters maximum
Thank you!!! I hate being limited in this aspect and waaay too many websites keep max characters insufficiently small.
