Anomalous WU scheduling?

Hello everyone,
I am running OET alongside ZIKA and SCC and I have noticed some strange behaviour regarding the OET WUs.
Recently OET has been issuing old WUs which appear at the top of my Tasks list. For instance I have 14 OET WUs with a deadline of 28th February but these are not running and instead my system is crunching WUs with a deadline of 4th and 5th March. In order to get these WUs to run I have to manually suspend all of the other WUs in order to force these OET WUs to run.
Can anyone shed light on why this is happening?

Re: Anomalous WU scheduling?

If you post some examples, it would help. It sounds like you are getting repair units for OET which would have 1/2 the normal deadline.
Cheers

Re: Anomalous WU scheduling?

The rule is FIFO, still first in first out, regardless of the deadline. IF and only If the client determines a task/tasks will not complete before deadline in time, will it switch to EDF, earliest deadline first mode. Manually interfering with the scheduling interrupts the client's learning skills.

Re: Anomalous WU scheduling?

Your queue is generally handled in FIFO order: first in, first out. If there's a need to run WUs earlier than advertised (because the deadline comes quickly in sight), your client will pause running jobs and switch to WUs that need priority.

Re: Anomalous WU scheduling?

Thanks for the quick replies. I'd like to show you a screen image of my BOINC tasks but I don't know how to post one here - can anyone point me in the right direction? I will wait to see if the WUs start before Monday 27th and if they don't I will force them again.

Re: Anomalous WU scheduling?

As an alternative, without using screenshots, you could do this in your shell:
let i=0; for s in "report deadline" "fraction done" "name"; do
let i++; boinccmd --get_tasks | sed -n "s/^ $s: //p" > /tmp/b$i; done; paste /tmp/b[123]

Re: Anomalous WU scheduling?

If your queue size is less (shorter) than the time to completion for the resends, then you will be OK.

As the pervious posters mentioned the order is First-In, First-Out (FIFO) unless the client scheduler determines that a newer job will not complete in time. Then it prioritizes that work and will suspend lower priority work in progress in order to do it.

It is not usually anything to worry about.

Cheers coffee
