I checked score for Cinebench R15. My question is: the multi-core score more critical or is the single core score. I think MCM is basically running, in my i7 4790k (4C/8T), running 8 instances of the program. That is, no core "knows" that another core is running MCM. Am I right?

Hey mark . . .@gmail(dot)com, it's probably not a good idea to publish your private email address on a public forum.
It makes you a (bigger) target for every spammer and scammer out there. |

hi! I didn't put my email address in the reply. The website did! It's maybe because you did not enter a forum name in the Settings > My Profile. In fact I seem to remember it was obligatory to create a Forum name before commenting, for sure it's no good that WCG publishes email addresses without your express consent. |

@mark
Your member name on your profile si your email address. This is why it gets tranlated to the forums. You can change your member name here: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProfile.do Once done, it will create a new field in the forum software with your new name on your next post. Once that is done, I can help clean it up from the forums. Thanks, -Uplinger |

well, going back to CPU performance in MCM...
I have too much of quite old PCs to be happy with the crunching speed, so I could tell what is not so good for this project )) lately I've been able to try Intel Pentium 640 (2nd gen I suppose) - it is still 4-4.5 hours just like my elder AM3 6-core Phenom and s775 4-core Intel Q9500 there is some next generation of Intel (3rd or 4th, cannot check to be sure) that started to crunch MCM much faster (2-2.5h) in similar clock frequencies even with cheaper Pentium CPUs now I'm looking so start a little farm with s1155 i5 CPUs specially for MCM... it could be very inexpensive solution, especially if bying mobo's on sales and CPUs from Aliexpress suppliers where a good i5 3.4-3.5 GHz might be priced below $30 just need a proof that 3rd gen is 'good for MCM' )) that could be very soon when I get physically to the node that surprised me with that performance ) |

Those old clunker CPUs are only good value if you have really cheap power.

just need a proof that 3rd gen is 'good for MCM' )) that could be very soon when I get physically to the node that surprised me with that performance ) Here ya go; both running on Win10: i7-4770k running 7 WO @ 3.7GHZ: average times for MCM is 3.3 hours. XEON X5460 (socket 771/775), running 4 WO undervolted (1.05 Vcore) @3.2 GHZ crunching time: 3.65 Take note that the i7 has only 4 real cores the rest is hyperthreading. So times would be much shorter if using 4 instead of 7 in my case. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by bicotz at Dec 13, 2019 4:55:15 AM] |
