Why does BOINC or the WCG Team not make a way to pay members 'Tokens' on a Blockchain per received confirmed work?
----------------------------------------The Token itself would be very easy to make on for-instance the 'Ethereum' Network/Blockchain. The 'Tokens' would be zero value to begin with but hopefully will start to get a value when people see the work put into earning them. Read more about Ethereum here: https://www.ethereum.org/ That way you would surly grab the attention of the people out there that are 'mining' Blockschain's for a profit as well. And believe me they have some serious equipment, like GPU's & CPU's that probably could dwarf the computational power the WCG is getting now. So to recap, I am not suggesting paying Ethereum for the work, but to create a 'Token' running on the Ethereum World Computer via a smart contract. Custom Tokens are very easy to make on Ethereum as you can see on the Ethereum website and everything is well documented Ethereum Token Creation Smart Contract . Video Showing off the construction of an Ethereum Farm The world's largest Ether Mining farm Ethereum is not easy to get anymore, its the same with many other crypto-currencies out there. ALOT of equipment is now mining 'Alt-coins' with little value just hoping they will be worth more. Why not give them the option to run BOINC/WCG on their equipment. And do something great with it, and still get something out of it other then 'just' redicules power-consumption [Edit 5 times, last edit by Dcypher at Jan 30, 2017 7:08:07 AM] |

Yes, I understand that people are motivated by "money" and that there is a tremendous amount of processing power spent on generating this "money", but some things are done by people whose only motivation is to the greater good of improving mankind's lot with the only reward being a volunteer to contribute to that goal. I know the effect Ripple Labs had when they started and the contribution was welcome. However, if the only motivation is money, and if there is very little or no money, they tend not to stick around, which is sad. the only reward I would seek is that sometime, someplace, somebody's life is better.

Cheers I agree with you, but if a lot more people would pickup the project. The chance/quicker success of the science could potentially be the tipping point to make someones life better before it is too late..... Nobody is forcing the "money" on you. You can do the work you normally do and feel happy about that, but one of the PC's out there mining some crappy alt-coin right now, could hold the key to advance the science a lot sooner. Doubt there will ever be a second of time being spend by WCG on this, another avenue that needs implementation, maintenance, support, admin, cheat-watch (points themselves have proven to be enough of a motivator to follow that path, not to speak of result fakers, opportunity always knocks) . Staff are salaried people on a limited budget... just not part of the core 'business' WCG is.

Especially since IBM is already deep into the workings of Ethereum as you can see here: https://developer.ibm.com/clouddataservices/2...t-contracts-and-ethereum/ |

Well, GRIDCOIN is running similarly to your proposal...some of us are doing job on Gridcoin team!
----------------------------------------& it's not so much a compensation...you can't really earn so much money that way! No matter what some of the people here say, like pointing fingers at certain someone being on Gridcoin team... But it gives me great pleasure to donate that same amount of GRC to some charity...like I did donate 80% of my GRC to SETi@home! Anyway, it would be nice...but most people out there are GREEDY! Like the Ripple Labs showed that...& most of them left, when no money is involved... It all comes down to your beliefs & values... ;) |
