23rd december last year i bought a Intel NUC (NUC5PPYH) with the Pentium N3700 processor and put it in an Akasa Newton P case for noise free.
I bought it initall for use as a web develop test platform (I manage some wordpress sites and need som offline test enviroment) and printer server. Also it has done crunching 24/7 crunching at 100% load a hole year with just three days down time. Those down times was not computer failior just power distrubution failures. Im very peleased with the stability and careless operation. Just put it up and forget it basicly and takes just abit more then a palm size space and are dead silence (passive cooled). Dudent even over heated during the summer in 100% load here in nothern Europe. Draw only 12W messured at wall socket at 100% load so dont even notice my contribution on my electric bill. Was so pleased so i bought another system after three month testing. Here under you see the reults. Might notice 2 days inactive time? Some one had unplugged the device from the wall. Due to its nature to not notice it i dident notice it was powered off before now when watched statistics on WCG page. server 12/22/2016 07:46:00 3:357:17:47:48 3,763,181 5,679 |

Happy 1 year anniversary to your NUC.
Mind sharing how many WCG Points your device has completed? That way we can get a dollar ($170) to ppy ratio. |

Just for comparison purpose:
----------------------------------------i7, 6700K, 4 GHz, Linux Mint 17.3 x64, from 2016-03-26 to 2016-12-25 (9 months) > CPU time: 5:347:22:12:25 > WCG points: 22,051,468 > Results: 62,607 It is a self-build host, i.e. significantly less expensive than ready to use systems. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by KerSamson at Dec 25, 2016 5:14:33 PM] |

So an i7-6700k does about 230 results per day?
That seems high -a truly monstrous quad Opteron 6286 (64 cores @ 2.6 GHz) does about 400 results/day here. Am I running slow? |

The number of results you get is going to vary depending on the operating system, and the project mix. It can even vary if you exclusively do one project because the individual work units vary in size. Cheers

9 Months for a hyperthreaded quad core host represents about 52'600 CPU hours.
----------------------------------------62'600 results computed within 52'600 hours corresponds to about 50 minutes per result. It fits perfectly with the reality of the Zika project which had 45 minutes average duration time and now takes about 1h10m on this machine. Just for the comparison, an i7-4770K at 3.5 GHz with Windows 7 Pro x64 has 2h30m average computation time for Zika. This huge difference is mainly caused by the operating system (in)efficiency and additionally by the CPU performances. In terms of memory usage, still based on Zika: > Linux x64 (Ubuntu/Mint): about 1.1 GB RAM for OS (400 MB) and 8 Zika WUs (700 MB) > Windows 7 Pro x64: about 3.5 GB RAM for OS (1 GB) and 8 Zika WUs (2.5 GB) In terms of environmental protection, a Windows based host should be ranked as "F" and a Linux based host with a "A". Aha. I run mostly (something like 80%, I think) mapping cancer markers - there's 4 zika jobs in the 64 currently running, with 2.5 hours running time on average. So my linux does even out the slower cpu's. That's good to know - thanks.
