For the World Community Grid, forum moderators, members, or anyone having an accurate answer and/or suggestion...
Any odds of seeing a new project started before the end of 2016? If not, possibly towards the start of next year? |

The only way that I have been able to find out if something new is coming down the road is when one of the WCG personnel insinuates it or when there is anonymous test activity in the Beta Test Support Forum. To my knowledge, I haven't heard about anything new... which doesn't mean that tomorrow the Beta Test forum won't go bananas with some sort of test activity

As cjslman has quite rightly pointed out, the WCG crunchers tend to be 'kept in the dark' as to when new projects are to be launched. As discussed in previous threads, there are many reasons for this - as I'm sure that there are new projects being worked on in some form or another (whether the proposals are being vetted, worked through, agreements signed, technical aspects being assessed, coding being undertaken or even alpha testing being worked on etc.). What I'm sure we don't want, are rumours that eventually a project to cure x is coming down the pipe - only for that to never materialise due to any number of reasons. I'm confident that new projects will be arriving in due course - and it's just a case of being patient and watching (scrutiinising) the forums for any glimmers of a clue. ![]() |

gb009761 you're spot on :)
And MrHasselblad rest assured, I can't remember the last time our pipeline was empty! We're always working on new projects and while we don't anticipate any launches before the end of the year, stay tuned for 2017! |

I was too, hoping something new would be coming soon. There are currently 6 active researches, but I only get work for 3 of them. I rarely get FAAH2 units, I haven't had an HST unit for over 3 months, and never had a CEP2 project for over a year. I dont know how some people have accrued badges for CEP2 and HST that go over a year, I struggled to get just over 14 days and earn a bronze badge.

Badanimal... you mean that you specifically selected one project (FAAH2 or CEP2) and you don't get any WUs? Or do you have all those projects selected at the same time ? If it's the second, then yes, that sounds about right. As a suggestion, if you don't mind the effort, you can load your queue with a known project's WUs there are easily obtainable, then switch to one of the other project's that are more difficult to get WUs from. That way you avoid the priority/weight issue amongst the different projects. I excluded mentioning HST on purpose because that is a different animal... haven't figured it out yet

I have tried both methods. I know when I select all it does favour the zika, ebola and cancer markers, but even when I set it to only HST, CEP2 and FAAH2 nothing comes in and it sits doing nothing for a long time.

badanimal78, the CEP2 project has been in a bit of a hiatus for a few months now - as there began being an issue with loads of invalid/aborting WU's. Therefore, the WCG techs/project scientists have gone away and have been investigating/running Beta tests to try and improve things.
----------------------------------------Based on recent Beta tests for CEP2, I'm hopeful (although I've got no insight/influence), that this project will be kicking back into life. Please note though, that it IS a 'Select in' project for a very special reason - due to the resources/time length's involved. As for HST, we're all having issues getting the very few WU's that are going around (and those who do have high badges, tend to be those with numerous PC's crunching). As for the Fight Aids project, I haven't been running it recently - and thus, I can't really comment. ![]() |

In regards to HST it used to be easy to get WUs but now is incredibly difficult.
----------------------------------------This decline in the Research page percent complete mirrors the decline in WU availability from an average of 12,000 Wus per day this past summer to less than 3,000 WUs per day now. There were just 1605 WUs returned yesterday. (link)That quote came from October 20, and roughly matches the number returned yesterday as well; 2,060 (link). ![]() |
