Guys, he wanted to use GPOU for medical research...so candidates are:
----------------------------------------- GPUgrid - Folding@home and that's about it! But consider using something like Tthrottle to keep your temp.checked...I managed to burn several CUDA based nVidia on SETi@home! ;) |

It's been a long time since I played around with the AMD drivers but if IRC AMD recently stopped shipping the OpenCL support in the driver code. The driver code should be enough for BOINC to at least recognize the card but you will need the OpenCL support to run the sciences. I believe you may have to go to the AMD site and download the OpenCL runtime and it may be part of an OpenCL development kit. It's also possible that it might have changed again since the last time I downloaded it which was over a year ago. You may be able to find what you need here:

Thanks everyone your replies! Nice community!
----------------------------------------@Falconnet LOL, yeah I guess I'm too much in the habit of typing OpenGL on other forums for other trouble shooting. I had to restart WCG as it was no longer in the log, so seems I'm good! Thanks for telling me where to look. 11/6/2016 10:41:29 AM | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7870/7950/7970/R9 280X series (Tahiti) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 3072MB, 3032MB available, 9472 GFLOPS peak) 11/6/2016 10:41:29 AM | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7870/7950/7970/R9 280X series (Tahiti) (driver version 2117.13 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (2117.13), 3072MB, 3032MB available, 9472 GFLOPS peak) @KLiK Yes, thank you. Medical projects preferred. Not looking to just burn out my GPU for the sake of. :) As mentioned less interested in F@H as it doesn't seem to be focused on any particular objective, I noticed GPUGrid as well when hunting around. Although they seem to be piloting AMD, all their projects look to be CUDA/Nvidea for the moment. Is that your impression as well? @Doneske Although I think I'm good based on the event log, your link is helpful. Thanks for that! ![]() |

AlmightyMoe,
----------------------------------------Cool, glad it's working. I checked and from what I can tell, the Windows AMD drivers include OpenCL drivers. I know they did back when I used Windows. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Let me add some additional data to this discussion. The WCG HCC project was OpenCL, for which AMD cards were optimized and Nvidia not so much. I seem to remember at the time WCG indicating that they would go with OpenCL instead of Cuda for future GPU projects in order to allow all members to participate and not just those with NVIDIA cards. Edit: Undoing the changes my cat made prior to posting. Yes, makes sense to go with something to include all, rather than single out specific makers. From what I have read, NVIDIA still struggles with OpenCL, but it has been a long while since I have researched it. @ AlmightyMoe - Glad to see your card is recognized by BOINC and ready for GPU work if you choose to add a project that supports it. |
