Re: ECD topic

KLiK, why do you use the term "SCC is ending" when it has been officially stated that the researchers will be sending new work our way? It would be better to explain that current work will run out, but that researchers are planning to load new work of unknown duration. It might not be much, but clearly it is not ending in 5 days.

I am referring to this post from caitilarkin 3 days ago, which I hope you have seen.

Perhaps it wud be just a pause with some scarse wu's and resends and i just got some work due to after Christmas
Is the current flow will go on till end of January?

+1

Data is given to me, so I can only write that.
Maybe it's paused, maybe that data arrives or not, maybe we can run it for a month.

As an optimist, I look at the bright side. But also, as a realist I have to get all pessimistic dates in. cool

So the same can be said for MCM: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=600231
But given the data, we know what we know. Till the ECD of the current data on WCG, we can estimate only that.

It's 3 days to pause, then some (might be) month run till the end.

Re: ECD topic

I hear you KLik. Ugg, MCM got me so irritated with false information that I've vowed to never crunch MCM again, unless it is the only project left. devilish

I'm 16 calendar days away from my first 20-year badge (and perhaps my only) with SCC, so I must wait until the data resumes once my stockpiles run dry. If I can know that there would be 6 months of data beyond that I might try for another 20 since I want to really kick childhood cancer in the *** on behalf of 2 young boys. Otherwise there are other projects to contribute to.

Cheers coffee

Re: ECD topic

Is there historical precedent for there to be only 4 active (really just 3 since FAH2 meager ) research projects running after SCC done?

I am running both MCM and SCC, mostly SCC right now. there does not seem to be any shortage of work units for SCC. If there is going to be a lull in the SCC work unit availability, I would think the techs would let us know a little bit ahead of time. As for MCM, that runs flawlessly for me. To what kind of false information are you referring ?
Cheers

Yes, there is, indeed:

  • when WCG started in 2004, there was only 1 project for about a year (Human Proteome Folding), before FightAIDS@home started as a second
  • in mid 2007 Human Proteome Folding 2 and FightAIDS@home where the only 2 projects for a short time
  • from end 2013 to end 2014 there where 3 projects: FightAIDS@home, Mapping Cancer Markers and Clean Energy Project 2, before Uncovering Genome Mysteries, Outsmart Ebola Together and later FightAIDS@home 2 increased the number again

I don't think the current situation is very special. There are 5 active projects. Even if Smash Childhood Cancer will have a short brake (which I doubt), there will be 4, which was the case several times in history. And FightAIDS@home might have a smaller weighting than the other projects currently, but even that was more the norm than the exception in history, as there were always larger and smaller projects.

Expect an astonishing graph visualizing that matter at the beginning of next year. Or have a look at the XtremeSystems Forum, were I already posted a first version of that graph:
