Changing To English Dates

I have been a WCG member for nine years and, living in England, always had dates in the English fashion - dd/mm/yyyy. Recently however the dates seem to have spontaneously changed to mm/dd/yyyy.

I thought that there may be a way of changing back in the Settings but I cannot find anything. Am I missing something or are changes made elsewhere?

Re: Changing To English Dates

nivrip, I think that there's a mixture of both mm/dd/yyyy and your own computers setting dates spread throughout the site (i.e., in your case dd/mm/yyyy). Personally, I think it'd be far better to either have them ALL determined by your own computer settings OR to have the month spelt out - i.e., Jan, Feb, Mar etc.

Re: Changing To English Dates

There's 3 places I can think of [4 if you will if you include the OS]

1) Settings My Profile, where you choose the country [doubt it has any effect]
2) My Forum Profile [Country setting, but again doubt it has any effect]
3) The web browser settings
4) How the OS localizations are set
5) "Am I missing something ;?"

Re: Changing To English Dates

I am afraid that somebody has played with the language_country setting routines.

WCG web pages use an "&language" parameter to format dates and numbers, and formerly this parameter was set correctly when you used the "Select Language" command.
For example for me it was set to fr_FR and for a user in Quebec it was set to fr_CA.

Currently (I have just checked) this setting is America-oriented, i.e. -
- if I select English &language is set to en_US
- French -> fr_CA
- Spanish -> es_MX
- Portuguese -> pt_BR.

As far as I remember, in the past, after setting the correct value (e.g. fr_FR for me) it was kept for all pages but a few, while now each page reset it to the wrong value (probably a systematic call to the badly coded language routine).

What is worse in your case is that even trying en_UK (or en_EN, I don't remember the correct values) dates are still displayed in that silly US format. crying
Which forbids you to benefit from my personal trick : I have added &language=fr_FR in all my saved calls to statistical pages, and (crossed fingers) it is still working fine. smile

Edit: nivrip, I tried en_CA to see if it could please you. At first it looked like being a possible temporary bypass for you. Unfortunately in every page I have tried there is a mixture of normal and US date formats!!! crying crying

smile Re: Changing To English Dates

Many thanks, fellas, for your replies which inspired me to look a little further.

I also realised that the change to the US system occurred when I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7. Microsoft seems to assume that everyone is a US citizen.

Anyway, I checked on my PC to find that it, indeed, was set to English US but with an option to change to English UK. The change involved downloading the English UK format from MS and rebooting.

This is good for me as, now, dates are in the UK format (ddmmyyyy) EXCEPT for some dates in the Device Statistics Section. Statistics Last Updated: 13/07/16 looks good to me but Last Results Returned
(UTC) 07/13/2016 looks positively bizarre when everything else is UK format.

So, I'm most of the way there and I thought I would let everyone who wants to change know the way to do it. smile
