When will Athlon Processors be Supported?

Just thought I'd add a separate thread for this known issue so that we Athlon users can just reference this one from time to time for an announcement that the problem is solved so we can start crunching some usable results.

I am not sure what kind of Athlon processor you are referring to, but in general, HST does not work on ANY 32bit OS though it is supposed to run on 32bin Win7 and up. If you are still running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, then you are definitely SOL, the project admins/programmer just give a hoot...

I too am curious about which Athlon processor you refer to. Here are a few lines from startup on my Athlon64 6000 and a task that is valid.

Re: When will Athlon Processors be Supported?

As I reported in another thread a month ago, I'm running Windows 10 on AMD FX8300 with 32 GB of RAM. I did 21 work units with every one coming up invalid with valid results from other users. I was informed in that thread that there is a known issue with this project and Athlon processors

There are plenty of projects that can use valid results so until this know issue is resolved, I've chosen to work on them rather than wasting processing time on this project.

Re: When will Athlon Processors be Supported?

During the last two years, from time to time I experienced a higher rate of invalid WUs computed with Athlon II x4 CPU (Linux x64), in particular for VINA based projects.
The situation was significantly worst before.
I noticed that sometimes WUs computed by AMD based hosts (Athlon II and Phenom II) are more often invalid than by Intel hosts. Years ago, it was mentioned that such situation could be caused because of the large majority of involved Intel hosts comparing to AMD.
In all cases, I select the projects for the hosts based on the observed CPU affinity; e.g. with Linux: OET1, MCM, HST1 are fully OK.
I avoid HST1 on Intel HT processors because of the less efficient memory management (comparing to 4 or 6 real cores by Athlon and Phenom (I do not have any experience with AMD FX CPU)).
Zika is running well on i7 in the both environments: Linux as well as Win7.
Cheers,
Yves

Sorry, but HST runs fine on 32 bit Linux. Only valid results as I can see. It's a c2d running in 32 bit mode. AMD Athlon should be fine too.

Re: When will Athlon Processors be Supported?

To straighten the facts: Specifically 32 bit HST fails on XP-SP3, unless you apply a hack. For that you're on your own... search the forums on how to. Linux/Mac had 32 bit from the start, Windows 32 bit was delayed due stability, and a comment was left by a tech in IIRC the 32 bit announcement thread, that there was an [unspecified] issue with AMD. Till then, opt-out if your device does not succeed on HST.

Thanks SekeRob. That is what I did and the purpose I had for the creation of this thread was for there to be a notification that the unspecified issue had been addressed so I and other Athlon users can restart contributing to this project with usable results that advance the research.

I see no value in producing a large number of invalid results just to receive a badge for processor time. Doing so is actually antisocial because it slows the project and delays confirmation of the validity of other cruncher's contribution.
