How often (if ever) do you repaste your CPU?

Only when you have too...temps OK at standard CPU clock speed, pasta OK (I'm off the hands off department when not broken)

About every third time I physically clean out the system. But my heat sink is very easy to remove and replace. Most people shouldn't, especially if there are plastic parts that hold the heat sink in place.
That's my 2 cents worth :o) |

Pretty much never as long as the heat stays OK. I have a couple of systems running running 24/7 in an outside building where ambient temperatures vary between -20F to 90+F and so far so good for the last few years. I do blow the dust out of the heat sinks once a year.

Cheers Isn't it amazing that your machines have been running in that environment 24/7 and mine have been running in a room that consistently remains 84F and above also running 24/7 for over 4 years and they were used equipment when we acquired them. Yet, there is a tremendous amount of energy being wasted keeping computer rooms at 72F. |

Yet, there is a tremendous amount of energy being wasted keeping computer rooms at 72F. They could probably easily run at a higher temperature if they have sufficient air flow although, with the number of machines they have in most server rooms, the temperature could get out of control pretty fast if they lost their ventilation system. Cheers

Hi there!
----------------------------------------Honestly, as long as the compound used the first time was a good one, it'll be several years before you need to replace it. Just keep your temperatures in check, and you'll be fine. The only CPU I've repasted is that of my Alienware 14, but that's because it was already heavily used when I bought it, and because laptops can use a bit more TLC from time to time than desktops generally need. Happy crunching! Move them into the house during winter... heat is heat.. Iwould, except for two things: My house circuits are not set up to deal with the the servr stack. Iwould have to move them into a couple of locations. And, most importantly she who must be obeyed would not stand for the server noise. Cheers

Thanks to All.
----------------------------------------System is a Old Q9400 and has been running 24/7 since '09. I have Tthrottle running w/70c max.. It's been hitting that temp often lately. Maybe next vac. I'll rebuild it and see if that helps any. ![]() ![]() |
