There are some BOINC based projects that sound a little iffy. WCG isn't one of them.

If all these concerns were true we might know since a long time.
----------------------------------------No whistle-blowers inside WCG ? or these "concerns" are just rumors, people looking for an excuse not to participate. The only problem i met around me is the language i.e english. Apart some presentation pages in french, people are rebuted to find all projects notes and reports in english. And they are afraid when a pb occurs not being able to express it and read the solution. Its true french people are far behind other countries about english and further more about sharing calculation More, since the DECRYPTHON Project HCMD 1 & 2 we dont have any french research promoting or taking part in a WCG project Shared research calculations is not popular in the media too. ![]() |

For those concerned about the language barrier of English, I would suggest any of the various machine translation services, which while not perfect, are usually good enough to get most of the meaning. Je lis tres peu francais, mais cela me aide.

1. 'probably a lot of spyware' 2. 'they will hack into my stuff' 3. 'government spying' 4. 'looks like spam advertising' The first three sounds more like coming from the "conspiracy" group, and well... it really doesn't matter what you tell/say/prove/comment, it's still a conspiracy . The last one is easy to defend... it can't be "spam advertising", heck, we have trouble getting the techs/scientists to talk to us !!! CJSL Humor in a weather vane... |

1. 'probably a lot of spyware' 2. 'they will hack into my stuff' 3. 'government spying' 4. 'looks like spam advertising' ![]() ad 1. well, they probably never had BOINC installed...'cause no EXTRA software or no ADD has been ever came to me in last, lets say 8y of using BOINC! ad 2. WCG BOINC version is special, with SSL built in...why would someone hack over BOINC & built in SSL?! ad 3. people who do a math "IBM = government" are EXACTLY people who you should be afraid of! I really do mean it, those people are dangerously delusional! ad 4. see ad 1. when someone tells you, you always consider in the order: 1. who is talking to you? 2. what is talking to you? 3. why is talking to you? after that, most negative people, idiots, conspiracy theorists & "uneducated know it all persons" will fall out of your Life! been there, done that...so much easier now! ![]() EDIT: also, check here for more info: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewHelp.do ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Apr 26, 2016 10:33:58 AM] |
