I had a laptop with an intel core2duo p8800, now I have a core i7 2670QM, it IS somewhat dated now but the core2duo was faster than the i7 and I don´t know why , does anyone know? is it something I have to configure?
Thank you inadvnce for any help you can provide |

i7 should be faster, check here:
----------------------------------------http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core2-Duo-P8800-vs-Intel-Core-i7-2670QM what are OSes on these laptops?! how much memory do they have? what WUs are you working on them?! btw, you get only badges for time...so you have to check that i7 only does about 23,999h per day! ;) |

Thank you inadvnce for any help you can provide I have an I7-2670QM. Turboboost you mentioned in other thread is a momentary peak-load mode i.e. if there is a sustained 100% computing, it wont kick in on top. Also, the CPU is limited in top speed based on the number of cores used 2-4-8, but have had 3.1 [which then runs it too hot, so capped it to 2.2Ghz in the power control screens. Then the fan draft wont cause the laptop to be dragged across the desk :]. Happy with performance, not with the fan noise, hence the manual limiting. |

My understanding is that these projects are more sensitive to clock speed than architecture - see https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,38954
So although your core2duo is older, it has a faster clock speed than your i7 (as SekeRob has pointed out, turboboost won't kick in for sustained computing). Though of course, if you have more cores/threading on your i7, you will return more results. Your i7 will also be much more power efficient. |

I have the same CPU in one of my laptops and have the cycles limited to keep the heat down. Crunches slow and steady--if you have your's limited as well then that is likely the cause for longer processing time.

Hi, thank you for your answers
The P8800 has: - windows 7 - 4 Gb RAM - working with Fight Aids at Home and the i7: - Windows 10. - 8 GB RAM - FAAH also with the second stage on the project, p8800 would do a task in about 24 hours, the i7 takes around 45. |
