I’ve run BOINC/WCG on a 7" RCA Voyager 2 tablet ( $45 at Wal Mart ) for 6 months now. It’s a quad core processor and crunches pretty good. I let it run 24/7 as the power draw is so small. Anyone can put up one or two of these easily.
Any one with wifi should set up one just for WCG. You rarely have to mess with it once it starts running. I check on mine every couple of days when I think about it. But so far I haven’t had to mess with them again ( I have 2 on WCG ). With the cost of the tablet ( s ) so low, and the energy draw practically nil, why wouldn’t any one set up one??? This thread is also in the "chat room" George Andrews |

it's not considered POLITE to post same topic in 2 different sub-forums! ;)

Thanks George, hardware seems so cheap in the US compared to Europe!
The cheapest I've found is the Asus Zenpad at £80 ($110/€100), which seems a little expensive just for casual crunching. Any UK/EU crunchers know of an equivalent cheap tablet over here? |

Sorry, wasn't sure which one was the best fit... Don't apologize or worry about it. He's our resident narcissist and no one died and left him in charge.

The only drawback is, you can only run ARM/Android compatible projects. There is only one currently, and if it finishes before a new ARM project arrives, you'll be without work.
----------------------------------------With that said, I'd be vary to run boinc 24/7 on any battery equipped device. The constant drain/charge will wreck your battery sooner than later. TV boxes and android boards like the odroid xu4 should be much better for the job. No battery, you can even open it up and add a heatsink/cooling if necessary for 24/7 running. I'm waiting for my pine64, but I think that will be a great cruncher as well. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by fuzzydice555 at Apr 11, 2016 1:43:34 PM] |

2.5 years on my Nexus 7 2013 of almost constant crunching, even when in car long distance dual acting as large screen TomTom led to no complaints on battery life, but, did set a very prudent 35C max for BOINC to pause, albeit hardly get that.

Maybe you should follow you own advise. It was your "opinion" that he should be polite and not post the same question in 2 threads. Why didn't you keep that to yourself? You wear the shoe very well. The more you post here the more you look the fool. Since narcissists always have to have the last say the floor is all yours. I'm done.

Maybe a bendable arm bracket could adjust it just right, so the air conditioner vent is blowing onto the back of it. That should help I have noticed that my phone gets unpleasantly hot just doing navi function in the car and have thought about trying this approach. |
