Why not? PS4 just a computer, more powerful than mine for example. Even CPU architecture is common and not so unusual as PowerPC Cell in PS3.

Not so bad. 8 tasks at one time. And this not instead but in pair with computer. > will SONY want to port BOINC on PS4?! Sure not. IBM or developer of BOINC - yes. And port to the PS4 is not the same port to the PS3. |

Sony sabotaged the loading of Linux onto PS3, why would it be different for PS4? Sony also ended the VAIO program, of preloading BOINC onto their line of laptops, i.e. lest there is collaboration with sizable numbers to show, there will not be a PS4 port [it is costly, done by salaried staff, but Linux and BOINC being both open source, anyone is free to try a jailbreak... of course IBM/WCG is not going to step into such an avenue]
BTW, you asked in your OP "WCG and PS4, Is real topic?" Yes, World Cyber Gaming on PS4 is, but has nothing to do with World Community Grid ;O) |

"The native operating system of the PlayStation 4 is Orbis OS, which is a fork of FreeBSD version 9.0" (wikipedia).
----------------------------------------> Sony sabotaged the loading of Linux onto PS3, why would it be different for PS4? No need for this according to the wikipedia. I never say about Linux for PS4, just mean "native application for PS4 OS". Since it (PS4 OS) some sort of Unix changes in BOINC will not be very massive because BOINC do not use any special devices for calculations. This excludes work with GPU - I never work with it, so can not estimate the scale, but think Sony just use common AMD drivers for APU (imho). UPD: Link to PS3 was about huge difference in complexity of porting source code onto it and PS4. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Huan-kun at Apr 11, 2016 11:12:32 AM] |

IBM or developer of BOINC - yes. And port to the PS4 is not the same port to the PS3. it's only 1,6GHz proc...of Jaguar family, that's 2013 technology! so, that's medium fast in present time... PS3 had a special SONY project so that folding@home could be ported to their OS...& it did use the power of GPU back then! SONY doesn't have that project today...nor it will have?! why? lots of PS3 got YLOD from overheating within warranty...so that's a NO for BOINC on PS4 also! also, you can't just put a program into PS4...OS is protected not to be hacked! so either you hack it (which experts didn't do still)...or find someone in SONY recommend the idea! but, as they are not so go fiscally, I don't expect some time for charity work! ----------------------------------------But 8 cores. Or does this project require top CPU only? UPD: Look, you say something like: "people maid quantum computers, so your result calculated with PS4 is nothing". But this is strange position for participant of distributed computing because DC is union of efforts very different devices. BOINC exists even for cell phones (android). Who use cell phone for this? It overheat too and charge go to the zero with light speed. So why not PS4? > lots of PS3 got YLOD from overheating within warranty...so that's a NO for BOINC on PS4 also! PS3 is not PS4. You can not surely say about overheating PS4 without tests and some thousands overfried consoles :D And well... Sony will be glad - thousands of new consoles will be buyed, maybe :) > also, you can't just put a program into PS4...OS is protected not to be hacked! I do not want hack PS4. I want _native_ (native for PS4) free application in PS Store. > find someone in SONY recommend the idea! > but you haven't asked SONY yet Who interested in BOINC? Sony? No. IBM/BOINC/WCG - yes (ok, maybe). So, if IBM/BOINC/WCG want to expand the community they must speak with Sony about such opportunity and it realisation. No. IBM/BOINC/WCG - yes (ok, maybe). So, if IBM/BOINC/WCG want to expand the community they must speak with Sony about such opportunity and it realisation. 1. don't put words in peoples mouth, that they have not said! 2. Android is an "open platform development"...notice that there's NO BOINC app on Apple Store, except for Macs! 3. SONY is a closed development company, like Apple is...so putting something like that there it "at least difficult"...in Apple case, it's even easier - we found an idea, that's being developed... 4. maybe you should ask people on folding@home, they had some project with SONY & PS3! Only one who is going to make native app is SONY... 5. again, if someone would like to port BOINC on SONY it's a Berkley directly...WCG is just a "large user of BOINC app", not an owner! |
