I’ve run BOINC/WCG on a 7" RCA Voyager 2 tablet ( $45 at Wal Mart ) for 6 months now. It’s a quad core processor and crunches pretty good. I let it run 24/7 as the power draw is so small. Anyone can put up one or two of these easily.
Any one with wifi should set up one just for WCG. You rarely have to mess with it once it starts running. I check on mine every couple of days when I think about it. But so far I haven’t had to mess with them again ( I have 2 on WCG ). With the cost of the tablet ( s ) so low, and the energy draw practically nil, why wouldn’t any one set up one??? So two of these yields 705 PPD total (28 day average from Free-DC). A five year old laptop does 1000-3000 PPD for 20-45 W so the power draw from these tablets have to be close nil before it make sense not to use one of the old laptops you have put in the back of the closet. Got a power meter? Some real numbers would convince those how doesn't stack a heap of old hardware in their closet. 10 W and 350 PPD for $45 is reasonable.

Hey gta198. I bought one RCA 7 Voyager for $45 and, like you, I have found it to be a great little cruncher. I haven't used it for anything else but it can run 4 OET1 WUs at a time with no problems.
I think I have the Voyager and not Voyager II. Not really sure. The model number is rct6773w22. The most amazing thing is it doesn't even register on my kill-a-watt. With nothing plugged in it usually registers 1 watt. I plug in the RCA Voyager and it still shows 1 watt. I've measured it 3 times at different times. My latest stats are: Agent Type Device Name Last Results Returned (UTC) Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) Points Generated Results Returned BOINC android 03/28/2016 15:12:34 1:213:15:48:19 273,586 1,309 That is 270 BOINC ppd running all 4 cores (1890 WCG ppd). Divided by 1 watt is 270 ppd/watts. And it appears that it uses even less than 1 watt. The closest I have in efficiency is my Z3740 at 199 ppd/watts (running mostly UGM). |

I posted this because this setup is something anyone can do and set up anywhere. Power consumed is the most important factor with me as i am on a fixed income. Others will like it for the simple set up and maintenance. $45 for a cruncher of any type is kewl to...

The charger is 5VDC @ 1 amp { shock shock } maximum rating.
So 5 watts maximum, I don't see how it would be that much though as it keeps the battery topped off being plugged in 24/7. Before some one asks, no I don't know the efficiency of the charger. If I had an amp probe or a watt meter I would measure it more accurately. I have them set on using 100% of the processors and memory/virtual memory. I do not use a SD card in them. Neither they or their chargers have ever even felt warm to the touch. I made my own card board "holders" for them that seem to be doing the job cooling wise. Hopefully some one else will try this setup to get their toes in the water crunching wise. |

making investment in ARM with Android in this time is NOT WISE!
----------------------------------------OET will run till 2017, but several larger WUs will be PC based exclusively! so only winning Android is a viable source for my investment...as I do use iPhone exclusively! but if you want low power, check topic here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,38781 B) |

The below results are what my two androids have averaged in ***Processing Days*** Not actual days.
953 Processing days 2.65 results per Processing day 620.45 points per Processing day ******************* 888 Processing days 2.18 results Processing day 508.79 points per Processing day |

I've tweaked my power setting in my windows tablet so that the screen "turns off" then sleeps after 5 hours (which it never actually does, which is the point). It's trickling in results, which is good.
