I wonder if it doing something to the on-chip cache. If you shutdown to 32 (match actual physical cores) does it go to 100%. Just a thought...

Seeing the same thing as Anhhai and Nanoprobe on a dual AMD 6272 (32core).
----------------------------------------These HSTs remind me a lot of the LLR wus from PrimeGrid which use a lot of level3 cache. If you try to run too many of those at the same time the cache fills and it has to use some of the regular Ram as cache which slows it all down. PrimeGrid actually recommends disableing hyperthreading or only using half your cores/threads for that reason. YMMV... ![]() |

Nanoprobe, Sorry, guess I wasn't clear. It got to 96% because I was only running 34-35 HSTB WU, rest were UGM. It was 96% before I restarted it and was still 96% right after I restarted it, this suggest that the check pointing isn't the issue. edit: Sorry, English isn't my first language Understood. I can get to 100% with a 50/50 HST1/OET1 load or running only OET1. Running only HST1 and the CPUs max out at 56%.

Found this in the Gromacs install guide:
For versions 4.5.x, threading is enabled by default - this is incompatible with MPI, so choose one or the other. Threading is useful only when all your cores are real (i.e. not hyper-threading) and do not need any network to communicate. Whether that is related to what you are seeing or not, don't know. Techs will probably have to weigh in... |

It doesn't appear HST1 WUs use more than 1 thread. So Gromacs threading probably isn't enabled.

Ibercivis uses gromacs too so maybe their forums carry some discussion.

I dont see any issues with CPU usage being abnormally low on my 2P L5640 and E5649 crunchers. Both Ubuntu 15.10 x64.

24 threads is a lot less than 64, but your efficiency looks really good [xs]anubis. Are you using SSDs?

Efficiency is fine as long as I don't try to run all threads on HST1.
