A quick look at the last 10 days or so shows less than 1000 units being returned per day. With probably thousands of people vying for them, it stands to reason they will be quite scarce. I stopped worrying about getting any long ago, but keep the option open. If I get any, good, but my machines are busy with other projects. Eventually, the scientists will either start generating more units or they will decide they have so few units, they can much more easily run them on their own in house systems. When they do decide, I am sure they will let us know. In the meantime, crunch on.
----------------------------------------Cheers
Sgt. Joe

I got two yesterday (Sunday morning) and two this (Monday) morning. With days at a time with nothing. greetings! Please go back and read the last 10 pages of the forum. I have dialed back tge "Additional days of work" setting so that I do not get more HST wu that I can process in a day. I used 0.7 day on 10 January and got 10 WU There are times that the WU are available, Two minutes after and they are gone. Instead of doing reapeated queies and burdening the servers, I now use cron jobs to do single updates at specific times. These times are: EST:(UTC-5) UTC Again, read back in the forum for details. Good fishing, Jay ps might look into using ntpd. ![]() |

I have never received more HSTB work units than I can process in a day, even though I have only a 4-core 1.8 GHz Xeon processor.
----------------------------------------I run this all the time: ntp-4.2.6p5-10.el6.1.x86_64 These are the times I have gotten work units: 13-Dec-2016 05:33:37 [World Community Grid] 13-Dec-2016 06:03:21 [World Community Grid] 09-Aug-2016 10:03:18 [World Community Grid] 16-Dec-2016 20:03:21 [World Community Grid] I did a sort unique on the time field. Obviously I may have gotten more than one work unit on each of those times, but on different days. ![]() |

I wondered what the statistical probability of an average cruncher who is not employing any methods to improve their chances of catching a TB work unit on any given day is? I then wondered what the chances of an average cruncher somewhere in the world are of actually catching TB for real are?
Some figures suggest that over 9 million people a year become sick with TB, but that many more catch TB but do not become sick (some estimates are that only 5% with Latent TB show symptoms and become really sick at some point). Is it possible that you are more likely to catch TB for real than catch a work unit? With all the talk of the shortage of work units, it's easy to forget why we are crunching them in the first place. Yes, I like a nice badge as much as the next cruncher, but if that was what mattered most I could save a fortune in electricity and computers and go down to the local shops and buy a huge trophy to sit on my shelf and sell my cruncher on e-Bay. I'm more concerned that a lack of serious progress in completing the Work Units also means a lack of serious progress in the research against this nasty disease. |

Greetings Widder,
----------------------------------------i suspect that there are limited resources to examine the results of the HST WU that are completed each day - so the amount of WU 'released' is also limited. As for my motivations: I have only one machine that is crunching the HST WU and only get enough that can be returned in less than one day. I have 1 year and 116 days of run time and my goal is to complete 2 years of run time before the project finished. (I had only 20 days left for Clean Energy two-year badge when it completed.) :-) For whatever reasons, some volunteers felt frustrated trying to get HST WU. If they posted a question or statement, I am glad to help. You are certainly correct about the seriousness of the disease. A friend, caught TB and that is another motivation for me. I think WCG is the most worthwhile of the BOINC projects, and I applaud all of the workers behind the scenes who make it possible. ![]() |

Your time is exact! The difference from Time.is was +0.001 seconds (±0.029 seconds). I am surprised my time is so close. ![]() |

I am surprised my time is so close. On a not-so-fast broadband connection and running ntpd on Win 10, my time.is result is usually like Your time is exact! The difference from Time.is was -0.130 seconds (±0.165 seconds). |
