Re: Limited workunits for Help Stop TB

Quick question: why isn't a maximum of 1 task per thread implemented for early projects? It would help prevent huge, unfinisheable caches (like rbotterb's) while allowing more people to help.

It also comes with the bonus of diversifying the computer pool, which is good for both for early bug hunting and get more broad time estimates.

Too simple.
Too logical.

Rej cool

PS: I am running Rosetta until TB wu are available.

Creation of 100 new workunits every 30 minutes still in progress:

Re: Limited workunits for Help Stop TB

Now, where did it say there were task dependencies based on returned results (as a possible explanation :).

At this time, I'm calculating on my unireversal polish worksheet that about 20,000 results are waiting on a wingman... twentythousand. That's over 2 days worth of task creation, if sticking to the letter.

My guess is that the limited WUs are temporary. We will soon get a flood of WUs, so no real point in taking time to implement new functions. Plus if this happens, I would hope it would be at least 3-4 WUs per thread.

Re: Limited workunits for Help Stop TB

Play nice children - we're all here to help science biggrin

anhhai, the ability to just allow 1 WU/thread is already here - i.e., the Beta testing (and I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to expand it out to 2 or 3 WU's/thread as the project(s) pick up speed - and eventually having the cap removed, once the project was fully 'up-to-speed' and proven).

xroule, you're not doing too bad in the HST project yourself - and I'm sure it helps (just as with anhhai), to have multiple cores to contribute.

Personally, I'm glad and appreciate that you're BOTH here, contributing all that you can (just like everyone else), in the hope that we can get as much data back to the various scientists as quickly as we can in order for them to utilise these results in a positive way.

Okay, I'll now crawl back under my rock cool

No problems with anhhai. I too used the company PC for a time. Now they are all my personal machines except for a couple at friends places. My point was just that in his case there was no shortage of wus, what ever the reason(s). Good for him, good for the project.

Re: Limited workunits for Help Stop TB

Before everyone continues using me as a bag cruncher case wasting all the valuable HST1 WUs for everyone and resulting in 20,000 WUs in PV (which also makes me a bad boy wingman too) ...

I'm now down to 2.9 Days of backlog with 4 days left for deadline (there is hope). I might actually get all my backlog done, so you will soon have this logjam cleaned up ..... laughing

Re: Limited workunits for Help Stop TB

I had not seen the T000 shorties for a longer period, but this morning I got 9 T000's in batches 511, 512, 513 and 514.

Initially estimated with 35hr53m runtime, but after the start and fraction_done_exact set,
the estimated time reduced to about 4 hours.

Edit: Added batch 514
