Story #008

"World Community Grid is one of the few ways that scientists can advance their research with almost unlimited and uninterrupted computing power, instead of being constrained by a local supercomputer with its frequent downtimes and which is usually shared by many others. This is largely due to the help of volunteers. So thanks to all of you, and please help us spread the word both to new volunteers and to scientists."

World Community Grid's renaissance man is an inventor, an accomplished pianist, and our go-to resource for anything related to science: Viktors Berstis! And those are just a few of his strengths. Meet this experienced engineer in the latest installment of stories to introduce our team.

All the story here!

Nice to meet you, Viktors!

Story #009

Thomas, may I intrude a little on your thread? There's a very important story that was not posted here when it appeared. wink

After registering as a volunteer and completing my first work units, my individual contribution was not enough for me—I wanted to do more. So I decided to create an international team whose sole purpose would be to support advanced scientific research through distributed computing, and the CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES team was born.

Volunteer from France Creates an International Team

Thanks for all you do for World Community Grid, Thomas!

Re: Story #009

Thanks so much, my dear Caiti! biggrin
I did not publish a post about my own history (I'm too humble for that) wink
Now that you have done for me, I publish the screenshot of my WCG statistics (as usual).
And thanks to World Community Grid for all they do for the Volunteers!
It's give-and-take cool

Story #010

"When I discovered World Community Grid, its relevance, the quality of its publications, the high level of information for the volunteers as well as results it provides to scientists, there was no question: I had to put my machine on the project and contribute to all of this."

Olivier is a longtime volunteer from France who helps run the highly successful CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES team. In this own words, he explains what attracted him to World Community Grid.

All the story here!

A pleasure to work with Olivier throughout the years! cool

Story #011

"Thanks for your ongoing efforts to help find answers to science's toughest questions. I hope we can grow to millions of volunteers, and someday I'd like to see us cure cancer."

Whether he's coaching his children's sports teams, or helping scientists deploy a new sampling protocol on World Community Grid, Keith Uplinger is always up for a challenge, especially when it means helping others.

All the story here!

Nice to meet you, my dear Keith!

"A big thanks to the volunteers. Without you and the resources you contribute, we couldn'€™t do what we do."

Originally hailing from the San Antonio area, Jonathan Armstrong is a lifelong Texan. Jonathan and his wife have been married for 19 years. They have three young children who are the primary focus of their time and energy outside of work. He received a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Texas Tech University, and interned at IBM during his senior year. Immediately after graduation, he was hired to work at IBM's Austin office in the services division.

All the story here!

Nice to meet you, my dear Jonathan!

Story #013

"Like many volunteers, this is very personal for me. It's very important to me that my work is connected to something that helps others, and promotes progress that can benefit everyone in the future."

Al Seippel may have been destined for a career in computer science from a very young age. He was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where his father worked for IBM. This team member was an experienced coder by the time he was in his teens, and began working for IBM while still in college. Currently, Al is responsible for managing the work unit build processes, creating project screen savers, and modifying science applications to run on World Community Grid. He also helps handle eblasts and website updates.

All the story here!

Nice to meet you, my dear Al!

Story #014

"I am not a doctor, and I am aware that I do not have the intellectual knowledge to do advanced research on the topics that I can support as part of World Community Grid. However, like many people, I have a computer whose computing power is oversized in relation to the use that I can make of it in my daily life."

Meet Gil Rivet, a volunteer from France who is an administrator for the CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES team. Here's his story in his own words.

All the story here!

Nice to meet you, my dear Gil! wink wink wink
