ok, so 32 arrived yeterday, all mini-atx cases so they fit easily in the garage, is gonna be a while before there all up...
the school upgrades 40 computers every year, so if i call them this time next year they'll have another bunch of 1-year better systems for me |

How's that power plant comin' comp?
 On a much smaller scale, I just added a new rig, an A64 3500+ with a gig of RAM. Not done with the config yet but it's up and crunching. Had a minor power crisis when firing it up and had to redistribute the load. My house has only 100 amp service, installed in '87. Guess the owner at that time never foresaw some nut running 11 computers in one room. How shortsighted was that! What I've done for now is to take the slowest pc, a 1 gig Athlon, out of service, borrowed 256meg of RAM from it to put into the only other SDRAM box I've got, a 1.1gig Duron, to increase it's RAM to 768 megs. Also got a stick of 512 megs of DDR3200 to add to another box to make that 1 gig total. So there are still 10 pc's running but the net gain in points and performance still gives me a boost. The old Athlon was my last Win98 pc and it may go back into service some day if I can find 512 megs of PC133 RAM cheap enough. Right now it costs considerably more than DDR RAM and the old box isn't worth the money. |
