Can someone send me a link or instructions on how to use BoincTasks with a remote, headless ubuntu server? I can't manage and the only tutorials I find are for graphical interfaces...

ARM processor/cores though... ARM processors only seem to be supported on Android devices

I’ve run BOINC/WCG on a 7" RCA Voyager 2 tablet ( $45 at Wal Mart ) for 6 months now. It’s a quad core processor and crunches pretty good. I let it run 24/7 as the power draw is so small. Anyone can put up one or two of these easily.
Any one with wifi should set up one just for WCG. You rarely have to mess with it once it starts running. I check on mine every couple of days when I think about it. But so far I haven’t had to mess with them again ( I have 2 on WCG ). If I want to add more tablets, this “set up” is both cheap and easy to do so. |

I use a KVM. I can use one head for 4 or 8 PCs depending on KVM type.
Cheap on e-bay. Works well for me. |

I have two fanless PC sticks, one Tablet and three Minix HTPCs running 24/7 with 32bit Windows 10 Home.
----------------------------------------Each device wants +/- 7 Watt for four cores. Saves some money in a country, where 1 kW/h costs 30 US cents. Retired crunchers are C2Q 9400 and some i7-920 machines. I have had KVM a long time ago. Today I'm checking crunchers with VNC or a quick check during a advertising break by TV remote control, because four of the machine are attached to the TV-HDMI port. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Mathilde2006 at Apr 7, 2016 8:02:36 PM] |

On my side, I would prefer Linux-based PC sticks but unfortunately the Linux version by Intel has only 1 GB RAM.
----------------------------------------Ideally, I would like to build a "Raspberry farm" (RPi 2 or better RPi 3), but WCG respectively the sciences are currently not supporting ARM/RPi running Raspbian/Linux. As soon as such a support would be available, I will surely do something in this direction. Cheers, Yves |

Yes, the Intel Linux Stick isn't powerfull. Some weeks ago the 2GB RAM Windows 8.1 version was cheaper, than the Linux stick. Maybe we see this in Summer again after free Windows 10 upgrade isn't no longer possible.
----------------------------------------I was also thinking about using ARM crunchers, but only OET limited to two years isn't a bright future. I would be interested about experience to replace Win10 with Linux on Windows-pre-installed Intel PC sticks.
----------------------------------------Since M$ is making the life more and more harder for customers wishing to install another OS on Windows PC, I am not sure about the ability to perform such a change on current PC stick. In all cases, Win10 is not an alternative for me (especially for a long term perspective). @Mathilde: in the past, my cruncher dream was a 4-Opteron server (with a lot of cores). Unfortunately without a sponsor, it remained a dream ![]() Cheers, Yves |
