A machine that has been crunching for quite sometime had an issue today. It has done:

I noticed that the CPU was not at 100% and that whenever I would try to do anything, I would get the Communicating with BOINC client and it would never actually be able to communicate with the client.

Things I tried:
1) Disabled Windows firewall
2) Reboot
3) Uninstall the client, install the client
4) Uninstall the client, reboot, install the client
5) Uninstall the client, reboot, patch, reboot, install the client, reboot
6) Detached from the project and then attached.

After performing number six it is somewhat working. I still get the communicating error and I cannot actually change of the computing preferences as I get the communicating with client after I make the change and it doesn't keep the new settings. It is however working on WU's again and I can see what it is doing and see that progress of the WU's. So clearly it can communicate with the client. At least it was able to get new WU's as it wasn't earlier and I let it complete the units it was working on.

The system is running Server 2008R2; 24GB of RAM and 24 cores assigned to the VM.

Any ideas?
