In name of transparency, it would be very interesting to have a WCGrid annual report that would show a summary of the findings/developments derived from the WCGrid tasks' results and an estimation of the power and cost (in electricity) that was used to achieve them.
What do you think? |

----------------------------------------This report could also be utilised to "market" WCG to other scientists around the world, highlighting what a powerful tool we have available for them to utilise. It could also be an addition to the IBM Annual Report, highlighting the contribution to society IBM is giving to the world. |

whoa, who is going to do all that work ??
my understanding is the people are too busy just keeping this going and trying to deal with computing issues. or maybe you will fly to the office and get all that data and compile it and make a report. |

Well, if it can be shown to be of a greater benefit to IBM than just us, 'the crunchers' (e.g., the shareholders, top level mgmt etc.), then I'm sure they'd be able to assign someone from their publicity team (when generating their annual report) to dig out some simple research and elaborate on it. After all, how many multi-national companies can provide such a benefit to the world?, surely IBM would like to capitalise on it??? |

or maybe you will fly to the office and get all that data and compile it and make a report. It was only a suggestion, no need to get in a cruncher's face for giving a suggestion. If it's implemented or not, is a different ball game. CJSL Crunching like there's no tomorrow... |

are you kidding me? look at this 6 month chart of IBM's stock prices:
http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=IBM+Intera...ChartStacking":true} do you really think they can just 'send someone' to start creating reports? highly unlikely, and everyone there is lucky just to have a job right now. |

halfcard, having had an 'insider experience' of IBM (I worked for them between 1991 and 2010 - when I was made redundant, along with ~20% of my division), I am very well aware of; a) what it's like to work for them, b) the atmosphere/pressure their staff will be working with (I can only imagine it'll have gone in one direction since I had my security badge taken off me), and c) IBM's share price. Thus, the reason behind me attempting to put a bit of "good news spin" on their annual reports.
