Operating IPv6 now towards the net, but is WCG good and ready?

The dentist asked "is it safe?", hitting on a nerve when today reading http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/02/using...hodan-and-other-scanners/

Had not asked the question to myself yet, but did notice a few days ago that the recently fiber-optic, FTTC to be precise, is hooked over IPv6 DNS as primary, with a secondary fallback to ol IPv4 plus another IPv6 and 3 more IPV4 DNSs [Seeing some bridging terminology interspersion in the addresses, which several levels over my head, so I'll take it for granted FTB it has some purpose.)

Oh, since being on fiber the molasses has further dehydrated vv the WCG site speed **... creepy crawling, so wonder if in the course of translating back and forth it's not helping the web experience?

** Does not matter what browser, FF, Chrome, Edge, IE.

Sek,

WCG is not running on IPv6. At the moment moving towards IPv6 is on our long term plan, but no ETA at the moment.

Thanks,

Good, bc Ubuntu right now seems to fail whenever it makes an ipv6 connection on my end. 🙂

Re: Operating IPv6 now towards the net, but is WCG good and ready?

hello
can I just check something, sorry complete newbie question. (and also sorry if posted on wrong thread)

I have installed BOINC client on several VPS Ubuntu 20.04 servers recently- all running and being recongised by World Community Grid. all of them running/reporting results. but I realise all of them are IPv4.

I just came across an offer for a very good value VPS but -after signing up - I realised it was a IPv6 only service (and I would have to pay a small additional fee for IPv4 IP address)
while Boinc client is running
/etc/init.d/boinc-client status showing active
if I run
boinccmd --get_tasks
nothing happens

and this particular VPS/device is not recognised on the list of 'my' devices.

is there any solution to this?

or do I need to use/pay for IPv4 IP address with this particular VPS?
thx!

PS - sam6861 gave a very prompt response under section Suggestions / Feedback forum
