nice one! if I were you...I'd only search for a "more core per proc" which fits my laptop...so that you can do more jobs simultaneously! ![]() Any example on device that fit the description? :) sorry, just checked out your intel MBO (NUC5PPYH) system...it has a soldered intel CPU! http://ark.intel.com/products/87740/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC5PPYH there are similar CPUs, that would work on your board...but none of them has more than 4 cores: http://ark.intel.com/products/series/76756/In...Series-for-Mobile#@Mobile so, no upgrade...just crunch as it's going! ![]() Yes I Know. I was meaning something better for the job with high perfomance for crunching with low electric footprint to buy instead of an second NUC5PPYH. why? you don't get anything from POINTS...badges on WCG are for a TIME SPENT...so use of these EE devices is wise! ![]() |

Good to know there is plenty off time. :)
----------------------------------------I have bought an electric meter and pluged in to the wall. Under full load on all four cores it drain 12 Watts with 8 Gb 1600 Mhz ram and an 120 gb SSD (no preferial like screen or keyboard, mouse). Not so bad! I have also got my hands on a older Brother Laser Printer with only USB-connection so in near future it is gonna serve as printer server too. Can make a compair with my Dell Vostro also run headless with win 10. The NUC runs Ubuntu server who.
----------------------------------------it has an i3-2120 cpu at 3.30 Ghz, 4Gb menory and 120Gb SSD and draws 68 Watts at full load. Both are now doing cancer mapping. The i3 do a Wu on 5:27 hr to 5:40 hr and get kredit 139.7 points to 158.3 points. The NUC with N3700 do a Wu on 8:05 hr to 8:15 hr and get kredit 132.3 points to 141.3 points. Two N3700 NUCs would outperform the i3 and only draw 24 Watts togheter. You could have 5-6 of those NUCs and have around same electric foot print as the Dell with the i3. Once you have this running long enough for the points to settle, may I invite you to add the information to the chart mentioned in this post:
----------------------------------------https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead_thread,38126_offset,0 Passmark suggests that this compares performance wise to the J1900 but only uses 60% of the power. Purchase costs are greater however... I got my cpu board and ram J1900 for about $150 here in UK ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by OldChap at Feb 21, 2016 1:24:48 PM] |

Newer tech cost more even if it is not greatly better than last gen. Found the Intel NUC5PPYH for £158.83 on Amazons UK-site. I have just one of this Pentium NUC so far and bought it for 1.700-ish SEK and reused an old SSD and RAM i had laying around. |

Yes, looks perfect due to it is passive cooled out of box. The NUCs laptop fan drived me nuts even if tuned it down in BIOS so I ended up buying a Akasa Newton P Cace from Germany. |

nice...but right now I'm getting to lower W consumption by getting lower powered procs...from X3360 to Q9550S, when L3360 is not supported by the boards! maybe later on I'll go for that board?! ![]() |
