Start Here forum maintenance

@Admin.

The descriptive text says

"Frequently-Asked-Questions and other useful Readmes created and maintained by the member community. Please read before posting support questions."

(Spellchecker has trouble with 'Readmes')

If WCG would like [select] members to maintain these FAQ's, you'll have to devise a process to facilitate this [I'm amenable to keep them up when time allows, which is 99% of the whole that was composed over the years by undersigned]. Alternately, you may want to move this 'forum' to the Retired section. Up to you, but it's a reference that is starting to be 'dated'.

thx

BTW, with respect to the 'once upon a time' bbover3 endorsement of the WCG wikea @ http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/World_Community_Grid_Wiki , this article http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Community_Advisors?cb=8096 is still existing there. I've edited the statusês. The problem with this wiki is identical to Start Here. No maintenance, substantial outdated and incomplete v.v. new projects.

Sek,
Thank you for reminding us that these FAQ's needed to be dealt with. I have discussed with the team, and we have decided to move them to the Retired Forum, Member-to-Member Support [Read Only] thread.

Also discussed this with the team, and we are not going to maintain external FAQ's.

Thanks,
ErikaT

If this were Wo-men in Black I, it'd be Tee

DIRFT: Do it right first time (every time). You've moved one thread [the SH Index], but Start Here forum, the topic of the thread, you've done nothing with, at least as of just now when I logged in. That's what's growing old, bit by bit, the index hardly will, not accessible members to maintain.

One post in SH pertains to the many charts I've been keeping up. They still update, in fact, pretty much all the pictures and illustrations shown in those FAQ's are coming from my private account. Does not strike me as a sustainable situation. You'll have to ponder a bit more with the other suites what to do with that.

Take care

Re: Start Here forum maintenance

I consider it a travesty that the FAQ's are to be abandoned.
This has been a most valuable resource in the past and should be maintained for the future.

Help for members continues to decline......

I also consider it a travesty - not only for the FAQ's, but that the whole CA program has been shuttered (with, as far as I can tell, no official announcement or thanks for all their hard work).

If it was due to their dwindling numbers, that's certainly not the members fault - as there's been several people who've volunteered and, in my opinion, would have been a valuable addition to the team. Also, the whole shuttering of the program hasn't really been thought through properly - as on the Contact Us page, there is still the following "Please check out Help before submitting a comment by email. For faster response, consider asking your question in the Forums where we have numerous experienced Community Advisors and members that speak multiple languages and may be able to assist you in your native language.".

If it wasn't for the valuable help we're bringing to the wider scientific world, I very much doubt that I'd still be around (and I'm sure that's the case with many others), so come on IBM/WCG, please change your habits and learn to work WITH the volunteers - not shut them out.

Re: Start Here forum maintenance

I'd like to clarify that we're not abandoning the community-maintained FAQs, and we're immensely grateful for the work SekeRob and other Community Advisors have put into creating and maintaining them. What we're trying to figure out, is how to allow more members to play a role in maintaining these FAQs. We're therefore going to open it up to any forum member who requests editorial access to those forums.

The title and description of the FAQ Forum has now been changed to reflect these changes Juan mentions. I have also posted a sticky thread in that forum with an explanation of these recent changes.

Thank you for helping us continue to improve the forums!

Re: Start Here forum maintenance

A little caster oil works. Maybe you want to continue reflection on whether the moving out of the Start Here forum index thread/post was a good idea, and maybe could use reversal with a rename to "Community-maintained FAQ Index" confused. Tested a few and find that the short-links (tinyurl or bit.ly) extensively used in the index continue to work, noting that the post has virtually hit the 32K character max a single forum entry. One of the new and able CM posters (really anyone who requests editing rights?) might want to develop an improvement... each section it's own post of the index, i.e. make the index a thread instead of a single post with a master front.

Take care.

Sek, thank you for your insight on this.
After discussion with the team, it has been decided to rename and move The Community-maintained Frequently Asked Questions Index post from the Retired Forum to the Community-maintained FAQs [authorized posting allowed] forum. It will now be able to be edited by authorized forum members.

Thanks!

Re: Start Here forum maintenance

From the dumb and dumber department, but would it not be fitting to move the Community maintained FAQ's forum to the 'Community' forum group?
