i'm wondering about a project,

or if there's a way that WCG software can be used for this idea i have.

it entails rebuilding the polar ice caps at both poles, the various glaciers that are there, even though reduced in size.

this is my google profile that i started collecting information for doing this;
https://plus.google.com/+RobS68/posts/eRB4nCMycSg

obviously it'll entail more than one snowmaking machine, a large source of water, and source of power.

in theory, using the following with snow makers; a source of fresh water from water condensers or desalination filters and the source of power from wind, ocean current, solar or combinations there of. this'd have to be done in near or below 0c/32f temperatures to work effectively. in the link above, i gathered various other source of info to see how this could be made viable.

my thought is to find a means to reduce the freshwater in the oceans enough to help restore weather patterns, and keeping this all as cost effective as possible.

my google plus profile is set to accept public messages, so feel free to contact me there.

much appreciated,
Rob

Re: i'm wondering about a project,

Even without doing the math, I don't think RSmith68 understands the magnitude of his/her proposal. Feasibility, in my opinion, is zero.
Cheers

Re: i'm wondering about a project,

we can mass produce various vehicles, modular homes, clothes, etc. what i'm trying to get help understanding is how we can turn mass production to help benefit something like this. not why it can't be done. and i'm asking something like this be consider for the WCG software, not to have it done in real life, yet.

You are asking the wrong people here. WCG provides crunching resources to scientists who approach them with fully developed research projects. You need to develop the project and the necessary data sets and algorithms before you approach WCG with the project. See this link for the starting point, specifically the Request for Proposals: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/viewSubmitAProposal.do

Re: i'm wondering about a project,

RSmith68,
did you consider:
1. that polar cap over South pole is INCREASING?!
2. that polar cap over North pole is in middle of the ocean & getting thinner!
3. that polar temp. goes from -50° to 0°C?! what equipment would do in such conditions?
4. how can you deliver fresh water to site without freezing it?!
5. what would you do with access salt? maybe you can sell it to make it profitable project?!
6. in a thirsty world, why would you do it - putting fresh water to snow?!
example: why not make a fresh water from sea water for thirsty world & put salt back to sea (dispensed over a large area)...

etc.

1. on me for not looking, my bad
2. as 1, but wouldn't using the snow help?
3. temps will affect this, but as to how to keep this working, how are buildings kept in with water?
4. there are portable desalinators used in cruise ships, why not use a freighter or something like an cleaned up oil rig to do this? both are mobile and can be moved as needed.
5; yes, the salt likely could be sold to help do this.
6; why not use these various water condensers that are posted in my g+ link?

I'm afraid thermodynamics may be your enemy in such an endeavor.

Re: i'm wondering about a project,

If homo sapiens sapiens really wants to mess up the thermohaline and the deep water formation [DWF] engine off Greenland [the number 1 circulation pump], then do please start this project.

This week several buoys in the Arctic region, near the north pole, measured zero and above zero Celcius temperatures, and off Iceland new world-record windspeeds were logged... the planet is doing well :\

3. people are not inhabiting places more than 80° northern latitude!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northernmost_cities_and_towns
4. again, that equipment should run in -50°C...not sure if it's designed to work in that condition's! as we do produce Power transformers on my work, so I'm familiar with something like "polar condition's"...so I'm pretty sure that those desalination devices weren't designed to work under -5°C...
& how would you power those desalination devices?!
5. again, you have to supply the salt & establish a transport route...not sure if it's possible from a North pole...check this: on Google - Top Gear Polar Special...
wink
