Was listening to Die Unvollendete , the other thread had no closing feedback. Usually what I do is change the ISP IPs in the router, got 3 sets, if WCG acts up [and it always is only WCG]... all that huge machinery they operate to 'optimize' traffic and this just keeps coming back. I did notice the lack of response on your old thread. I can only hope for the best. Unfortunately, changing between ISPs is not an option for me. I've got just one: Comcast. Thanks for all the pointers! Tuna Besides, I just checked: the other 4 machines I have had no problem uploading their results. Some WU or something else on this one machine must have created a state of data that the servers are not expecting to digest. BOINC is pretty much the only thing that happens on this machine, so short of some power flicker or Windows Update reboot, I cannot see anything "funny" happening on this machine. So, hopefully someone will let me know what to do to not lose all this completed work. Otherwise, I might need to reset the project, and destroy the work. In the meantime, I will set the machine to No New Tasks for WCG and Abort any unstarted WCG tasks at 0% to minimize an eventual sacrifice. :) Tuna ![]() ![]() |

May not have any effect, but you could try the following: add <max_tasks_reported>N</max_tasks_reported> to the cc_config.xml where N is set to something small like 20. Then tell the Manager to read the config files and set WCG to No new tasks. Mine is already set to 1000. You think lowering it might help? I am curious as to why that might help? ![]() ![]() |

Well, I reduced it to 1, and I think I might have found the problem. There is one task that ended with Computation Error. I did manual updates with that size set to 1, and when it came to uploading this guy, it barfed.
----------------------------------------Then the question becomes, how do I delete this task. I tried to Abort & Suspend the task, but that didn't have any impact to uploading it. So, I might end up needing to do surgery in the WCG folder under the BOINC's Projects folder, but what do I need to remove to avoid causing more corruption?... I know the task name is MCMI_0019322_2438. Where to with that???... Tuna ![]() ![]() |

I'm going in for the surgery. Quit BOINC Manager. Made a copy of client_state.xml. Finding all instances of 19322_2438 in it, and removing those sections. Also renamed a MCM1_0019322_2438_MCM1_0019322_2438.txt in the WCG folder. We'll see if restarting BOINC Manager after this will get rid of that task.
----------------------------------------I wish there was a DELETE button on the BOINC Manager's Tasks tab... ![]() ![]() |

Don't think you will need to do anything with the WCG folder. Most likely you will need to edit the client_state.xml file to remove the data associated with that one task.
Here are the following steps you will need to do: 1. Set the networking to never in boinc. 2. Stop the client 3. Make a backup copy of client_state.xml 4. Open the client_state.xml file in a text editor, i.e. notepad 5. Search for worldcommunitygrid 6. Start scrolling down until you find the entries that start with <result> tags 7. Find the exact <result> tag that matches the workunit name. 8. Scroll a little more and look for the first closing </result> tag you see. It is possible that this task doesn't have a closing </result> tag and you may find another opening <result> tag for the next workunit first. 9a. If you find a closing </result> tag for the bad workunit, delete everything from <result> to </result> for that workunit, save the client_state.xml file and exit the text editor. 9b. If you don't find a closing </result> tag, then delete everything starting with <result> and stopping before at the <result> for the next workunit, save the client_state.xml and exit the text editor. 10. Start the client again and make sure it is running correctly. 11a. If the client is running correctly, set networking to always or based on preferences (your choice) 11b. If the client didn't start correctly, stop the client again, restore the backup client_state.xml and try editing again as either not enough or too much was deleted. |

Yes, it might be good to remove the <workunit> section as well as the <result> section. I don't think the <file> entries need to be removed, but leaving them might cause those files to stay in the WCG folder I wish there was a DELETE button on the BOINC Manager's Tasks tab... That would come in handy at times. |

Just as you were typing this, which I didn't get a chance to read, yet, I ended up removing every section referring to 19322_2438 in client_state.xml. Then restarted BOINC Manager, and the WCG updates happened perfectly.
----------------------------------------Now that I am happy, I'll read your method... :) ![]() ![]() |

Yup, that is basically what I did... :-) But I also deleted all the other sections in addition to the RESULT section.
----------------------------------------Phew... I am happy. Thanks for all the help!! And, taking the time for it! I hope this thread will be useful to someone somewhere sometime somehow... Tuna ![]() ![]() |

Glad you got it working again. Editing the client_state.xml can cause some interesting problems if done incorrectly.
