Looking at my screenname it shouldn't be a surprise I live in a country that uses a lot of Unicode. As such, most of the machines that crunch for me have names that are not friendly if Unicode is unavailable. On the Results Status page machines usually appear as a number of question marks while on the Device Manager page these same machines tend to show a seven digit number. One machine is 2????? and then 2 on the other page which is better than the all question mark format.
----------------------------------------While the "date installed and registered" under Device Manager is useful as long as I remember when I installed Boinc, I don't always remember clearly when I installed the software. In terms of crunching software, they all only have Boinc installed (i.e. no other monitoring software) and are a range of Win, OS, and Linux boxes and I don't always have ready access to them physically. Can we get some Unicode support as that would greatly help me manager my machines better? ![]() |

See your problem [and everyone with more than one android computing has it as well, all of them are called 'android' in the device statistics. Now fully reverted to using the API [see help], to extract all results every 12 hours in automated fashion [see Hunting tool 2.0 thread], and analyze from there. For the 7 digit number [which is the unique device ID at WCG], got a lookup table, which then plants my 'NetName alias' in the data records next to the numbers. The ?????? same, a getUrl with a strip again reveals the 7 digit device ID, the whole then merging nicely.
----------------------------------------Personally, I've been suppressing the NetName [localhost] since a long time via a cc_config option, I'm fine with the number and use the alias matching [which creates a perfect x-link with device statistics and device profiles. (If you tick the 'show hosts' the world can see your network device names as well [e.g at BOINCTasks]... never thought that to be a good idea. All these workarounds are a fact of life requirement, but how I do it now is infinitely better , not painfully having to parse page by page, rather click, expand, review [if a problem entry shows repetition], and offline. [I that I would greatly laud xml coding of all our My Contribution views combined with the key-code, and fully dispense of password use needs, [yes I'm beating my blechtrommel again].
