Is it possible to have more than one device installed on a computer?

If you use ud monitor, yes.
----------------------------------------Then you can cache enough units to see you thru xxxxx time and send the results at your leisure. But bear in mind the timeout limit for units and don't cache more than you think you can comfortably process in the given time. I just keep a cache of 5. If you need any config help just holler ud monitor When you install remember to run the ud mon WCG batch file. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 12, 2005 1:09:46 AM] |

Move it to your WCG folder.......then run the WCG batch file that's in there.
Once you have it running you have to enable the "use cache" checkbox on the cache tab. In the settings tab you have to point ud mon to the WCG folder. Hang on....let me go find my beginner's guide |

I wrote this for UD but other than running the WCG batch file it is the same:
"First: Go to http://udmon.sourceforge.net/ just click on download installer and choose a mirror handy for you. I normally use HEAnet which works fine. Download and install. Second: Click on cache tab. Check the use cache checkbox Right click in the window and click on new slot Fill in info.......check "i am an existing member" and input your name and password It will download an 800k file (the unit and slot info) Thereafter downloads for that slot will be regular size. Repeat procedure for however many slots you want to set up (with their unique device names of course.) If you are going to send the results automatically (ie always online) go to settings tab at bottom of window and hit the general tab. Check the "send results before cache auto switch" checkbox. I leave that box unchecked myself for two reasons. 1. my rigs are not permanently online and if it cannot connect when a unit finishes it will just sit there idle (trying to connect.).....and not switch to the next slot. 2. If the server goes down your rig will idle when a unit is finished. So I recommend sending work manually. Well I think that is the main stuff covered. You can set save point timeout warnings in settings/interface......I use 25 mins/30 mins. You can set UD to autostart with your rig (who turns them off?) I have no doubt missed one or two points but is hard to think with the noise these 2 girls are making.......aargh and I think the salient points are covered. As you will see there are keyboard shortcuts for most actions but I have explained it the way I do it. We are not all computer gurus!!! Anyway I hope this helps. Vaio." |

It only lets me run 1 Work Device thing at a time. Is there anyway i can run multiple ones at once?

There is a way but I shall say not how as it may lead to data corruption....and anyways..it'll just make each unit take xxxx much longer to complete.

if you are comfortable with linux, you could use a program called VMware to create virtual machines, so to take advantage of dual processors create 2 virtual machines load windows on each and viola 2 WCG agents running on the same computer.

Something else to keep in mind is that the World Community Grid is attempting to roll out a new Linux Agent this year. Since there are only 3 1/2 months left in the year, we are likely to be looking at new features in the not too distant future. Perhaps some of them will look interesting enough for some people to consider putting dual-boot on their Windows systems as an experiment.
