Hi y'all,
I've been Boinc'ing with WCG for just over a year and have never been a member of a team. If I now join one, do my existing points/results count towards it? Or does my contribution start from the moment I join? Many thanks, Alpacaman |

Your points for the team start when join. You still keep accumulating your personal points. When you quit a team your points accumulated for that team stay with that team, but your personal points accumulated anywhere will always stay with you. Hope this makes sense.

What Sgt Joe said is absolutely true. I just want to point out that if you use the contribution pie chart that Free-DC displays for all of the bigger teams, your total contribution to date is included in your team rank.
----------------------------------------Those points don't go to your team, as Sgt Joe said, but they do affect your overall team rank on the Free-DC system. Not sure about BOINCstats. It's weird that they do it that way since only the points you generate after you join actually count toward the team total. But let's say that the top producer for a team has a total of 10M boinc points (=70M WCG points) and you have 11M. Once you join, you will appear as the team's top producer. ![]() ![]() |

BTW OP, do you work with Alpacas or are you just a fan? I'd be interested in an AMA-type thread if you work with them. Have we ever done AMA threads here?

Thanks Sgt.Joe, twylith & deltavee ... Understood, although agreed on the weirdness. I think I'll join the UK Team. Unfortunately, I'll soon be losing my Data Centre rack space & "free" power, so compute power will revert to laptops and a Raspberry Pi !
@twylith: I have a small herd of alpacas, all-but-one of which I bred over the last 10 years. I have no idea what an AMA thread is, although am happy to help if I can :^) |
