Ok so this one is driving me nuts, I have a 6 core 12 thread CPU, I have it set to run 9 instances on the CPU to leave some processing power over for GPU units I run from other projects.
----------------------------------------All has been well until today when I notice its running 12 units at a time not 9. I have this machine on default preferences, highlighting WCG and clicking properties in the boinc app confirms its on Default. Tried changing the value in settings on the app, updated on the boinc app and no change still running 12 units. Any idea why its ignoring the settings? ![]() |

If you want to run 9 out of 12 threads you should be able to set in BOINC manager:
CPU on multiprocessor systems to 75% |

Right ill give that a go, never had any issue before though just setting 9, and why is that there if it does not do anything now?

Also wont that limit the cpu power available to GPU apps as well?
----------------------------------------Setting 9 in the options worked a treat before, I cant understand why its being ignored now? ![]() |

Ok just tested another machine and its doing the same thing, using all the CPU cores regardless.
----------------------------------------Sure I have had this issue before and fixed it, must be missing a setting somewhere :s Any thoughts? ![]() |

Ok so on my other machine I changed the percentage in device manager to 75% and its dropped from 4 to 3 cores.
----------------------------------------Tried the same thing on this rig and its done nothing, still using all cores despite the settings being 9 cores 75% usage. ![]() |

Ok under computing preferences it said local, changed to web and 75% seems to have sorted it.
----------------------------------------Two remaining questions though : 1: why in the past did it work fine just by changing the number from 12 to 9? 2: I wonder why in computing preferences in the client it says its pulling the preferences from WCG site even though I have more than one project on the go? ![]() |

I believe it uses the preferences from the project where they were most recently modified.
