Re: And so it begins...

I've returned 47 workunits so far. All were valid. Runtime = ~12 hours on my i7-3770s.

Re: And so it begins...

Thanks. Seems like linux application runtime is twice as windows.
To proof this I started my small vm on my i7-3930k with linux. Estimated runtime of a wu is ~24 hrs.
i7-3930k with win7 runs a wu in ~13 hrs.

New badges, new forum... and with only 198.2 years in FA@H (after crunching for 7-8 years), I've now missed my big chance to score 200 years on a single project crying

Re: And so it begins...

uplinger--are FAH2 WUs all the same size and worth the same number of credits or are they variable as in other projects?

They should all be similar size. There is variation, but shouldn't be a huge swing, maybe +/- 10%. Atleast that is what we've seen in our testing so far. They should not all be worth the same amount of credit. I know there is an issue with an apparent max given out and it is on my list of things to investigate from BETA.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Thanks for these added details, uplinger. The more specifics we know about the WUs, the better.

Re: And so it begins...

Looks like that the long runtimes in linux environment is caused by the cpu. The cpu doesn't support avx and my virtual machine blocks avx, too, due to a software bug.
So runtime is even between vm on 3930k and 980x native.
A team mate with an i5 2600 has runtimes ~8 hrs on linux.

Re: And so it begins...

FAH2 doesn't use AVX instructions.
"avx" in WU names has nothing to do with this instruction set.

Re: And so it begins...

Then the big question is: Why is a i7-2600 roughly 3 times faster than i7-980x or i7-3930k using linux on all three? Especially the comparison between the 2600 and the 3930.
