./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This is the message I get when trying to run the client on my SUSE LINUX opensuse 13.1 machine.

The machine is a completely standard install and I have (on more than one occasion) followed the installation instructions to the letter.

All I get whilst trying to run using the supplied command is the error message above. And as a Linux noob means exactly nothing to me. I had the client running no problems on this machine until it suddenly stopped communicating with the mothership and I was told the version of boinc I had needed to be upgraded.

So Here I am with many dark cores and no way to light them up.

Help!

Re: ./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I don't know suse but it looks like libwx_gtk2u is missing

In ubuntu from the command line I would try "sudo apt-get install libwx_gtk2u" or something like that. Not sure what commands suse uses.

Alternately have a look for it using your software manager if yours is graphical

Edit:http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/2...2.8.12-13.1.i586.rpm.html

http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0

Might help

Re: ./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

GB003201,

I had a similar experience in Ubuntu 15.10. I had installed BOINC manually using the same procedure as I had used for several years. At first, it worked fine. Then a few days ago, there was an O/S update and BOINC Manager would not start up. When I tried to start it from a terminal session, it gave me an error message that said libwxgtk2.8 was installed using different compile parameters. The system had set up libwxgtk2.8 with C++ ABI 1009 and BOINC Manager was expecting C++ ABI 1002. I tried to reinstall libwxgtk2.8, but the O/S said it was already using the latest version.

I was able to get the BOINC client started up and was able to control it using the BOINC Manager on a different machine. But the BOINC Manager on Ubuntu 15.10 would not start up.

The only way I could get BOINC Manager to run on Ubuntu 15.10 was to install it from the Ubuntu software installer. That works fine. It's a bit of an inconvenience when I wanted to set up app_config.xml files for the projects that I run because the project files are owned by BOINC so I had to use root commands to add/edit the app_config.xml files. Otherwise it works great.

Good luck getting yours to work.

Re: ./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_html-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Thanks for the responses, I too resorted to the Suse installer version rather than the download from the World Community Grid site and although the client starts - when I try to do anything it just says something like "the client crashed - would you like to restart it?"
I have over 20 3ghz Xeon cores doing nothing and I have tried for months to get this sorted! I am not a linux tech, I use it because I don't want to buy windows licences purely to run BOINC.
Surely there is someone in the world who has BOINC running on SUSE 13.1? I mean it is the latest supported platform...
I have also tried in the past to contact the BOINC support direct and I suppose I will have to do that again.
Thanks anyway for responding.

Kind regards
Joe

You could run the Windows 10 Insider Preview. I'm running 2 copies.

Suse 13.1 has a topic at Berkeley forums telling to use the rpm builds. Their wiki has extra SUSE notes how to progress [though Berkeley seems off the air at this time].
