Re: PC stats, etc

Running an Intel Core i7 3930K @ 4.2GHz at the moment. 100% utilization of CPU for WCG (currently MCM, CEP2 and BETA tasks).
32GB DDR3 2133 MHz RAM at tight timings. 8GB RAMDisk of these 32GB (to save my SSD and up the performance of CEP2).

Thermaltake Level 10GT Snow chassis having one huge fan at the top and side panel. 1x 140mm in the front and 1x 140mm in the back. Also a 120mm bottom fan. Phanteks large CPU cooler with three 140mm fans.

Looking to upgrade to 5960X if I find a good deal some time before Broadwell-E is released.

"G750JS"
- i7 4700HQ
- GTX870M
- 16GB RAM
- 240GB SSD
- 1TB HDD

Temp gets up to 80c on both CPU and GPU when @ 100% so bit crispy but seems to be stable enough. The keyboard surface and below the laptop is always cool to the touch though, all the heat comes out the vents at the back.

Can't see your dropbox image. What do you use the GPU for? I have found in the past that if I am using both CPU and GPU for processing, the GPU performance suffers quite a bit. If I remember correctly, for each GPU you have running, you need one CPU core available to feed it work.

Yea you right but I think it varies depending on what type of algorithms your GPU is working on. I sometimes run "GPUGRID" and haven't noticed any performance difference, when I suspend CPU tasks or keep them active. The mobile GTX870M no where near as good as a desktop version though but still very impressive considering they look something like this hahaha, and require much less power to run.

Re: PC stats, etc

Wow Dmitri thats not what I am used to seeing for GPU computing! By less power, do you know how much power they use?

I have some systems that I use for GPU computing and with dual NVidia GTX580s (older cards) running in them, I am drawing 660w peak. For comparison though, the same machine running dual AMD 270x cards draws 480w peak. I haven't done a power draw test with the GTX980/970, need to do that as I am curious to how much they use.

One nice thing about the GTX580s though, they make great foot warmers in the winter under the desks biggrin

about 100W per GTX 870M:

also, I'd rather be using GTX 750 Ti's:

much less power hungry!

Re: PC stats, etc

Hmm interesting, I would have thought those AMD cards draw more power than GTX580, Navidias always been labeled as more efficient. Having foot warmers is great but during summer it's probably not something you want lol.

Yea 870M takes around 100W Peak, which is still very high for a mobile GPU. Overall the peak for this laptop is 198W. When not doing anything graphically demanding 870M is switched off and it uses Intel HD4600, so up to 5 hours battery life if you just browsing or reading.
