Lastly, if you do have info on the state of the servers/feeders then instead of just keeping it to yourself them let the information out into the community ASAP where it can do some good instead of just sitting on it. After all, you are a Community Advisor, yes? I believe it has been mentioned before in other threads that the Community Advisors do not have any more insight to the server/feeder status than any other crunchers. I, like others, would love to see this item implemented, but, sadly, the WCG hierarchy have not seen fit to do this. I might speculate as to the reasons - security, poor interfacing, no ice cream treats on Tuesdays - but whoever knows, is not telling at this point. Anecdotally, based on past experience, the times I have run short of WU's unexpectedly is well under 1% and I run with a one day cache. So with a 99+% uptime I think they are doing a pretty good job of keeping things running fairly smoothly. Not that they don't have occasional problems and could do better with some of their communications, but, hey, nothing is perfect. Here's hoping the flow is back for you and stays that way. Cheers

I'd be very careful if I were you seke. This whole endeavour called WCG realise on one thing to keep on going, and that's charity. And charity can dry up very very fast out here on the net. With the flick of a switch or mouse click, it's gone. It's been like this for almost eleven years now. Sometimes crunchers get frustrated and say they are going to quit. But I think most people here are interested in the good work WCG is doing and don't sweat the small stuff. |

Thanks, and understood, fellow crunchers :-).
----------------------------------------After the last bout of the WCG site going b**bs up, and the powers that be hopefully sorting it out I think I'll be able to turn the Z97 and D975 crunchers back on. Still.... would be really nice if we did have a server stat/workload page.... Pretty please with fluffy bunnies and lots of kisses ;-) End of line. ![]() "Sadly this project is turning into nonscience......" |

Device1 to have 4 IP, 1 always crunching, not received any in past 33 hours. Last one is soon to finish.
Device2 to have 6 IP, 2 always crunching, not had any backfill for past 11 hours. Notably, D2, my fastest hit the 18 hour choke, no checkpoint again, so it's not allowed to do it alone for 15 more, kicked out of the repair queue. |

I'm not getting any more CEP units. It's OK as I can run other projects, but just wondering if there is an issue?

Yes, I've only 1 WU that my machine is crunching on (I've got it set up to accept up to 5 at any one time), so perhaps we are going through a 'mini-drought'.
----------------------------------------I'm sure that there'll be some more coming through in the not too distant future (there'd better be - as I'm attempting to round off this project to Sapphire, and my current stock of PV WU's won't get me there by a long shot). Edit: Indeed, there has been a trickle since I posted this comment - as I can now see that 2 more CEP2 WU's have arrived, awaiting being crunched. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at Nov 5, 2015 2:57:06 AM] |

Is this a long-term drought? For all the communicating they have done in the past, there is remarkably little information being given out. |

While there were no WUs for CEP2, I was flooded with MCMs (and the rest of the projects too, but mostly MCM). To add insult to injury, BOINC Manager continued to download other projects even after the shortage ended, probably because there was no more room for the hefty CEP2 tasks. I have now unchecked all the other projects, just to try to decrease the cache load enough to start getting these tasks...
----------------------------------------So from my point of view: no, it's not all good. And since this drought is already the second one in only a short space of time, I sure would like to know what the heck is going on. Do we need to be worried? I mean I'm aiming for Sapphire here and I don't have hundreds of cores to throw at it. ![]() Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world! - Albert Einstein ![]() |
