The word 'benefit' has many meanings, but the two most common categories of benefits are intrinsic and extrinsic.
Knowing that you are not going to get a new umbrella, briefcase or soccer shoes for being in the top 1% does not prevent you from retaining intrinsic benefits, The intrinsic benefits you are trying to collect with this thread is the opportunity to control a conversation, to be included in a special group and to upgrade your status to Master Cruncher and finally Ace Cruncher. These benefits are neither wrong nor bad, but they do exist. Enjoy. |

Well BladeD, what I did was go here to find out how many years are crunched in a day. Then I went here to see who are the top big hitters. Maybe there's an easier way, but it's not really that important.

Klik,
I think where you are coming from, but everybody crunches in their own way and changes things according to what they want to achieve. I don't think any of us would want to impose what we do on others. As elder statesmen and power-crunchers, maybe we can shares some tweaks about how we got to where we are. I wouldn't have been outputting as much as I do, if it wasn't for the help of the people here, whose stories gave me the confidence to build my crunchers. I have learnt a lot from them and as I have become older, have been able to spend more cash on this project. |

WCG is set up so everyone can crunch anyway they want to. Rule #1: No rules. we are the BEST of the BEST...a TOP 1% of WCG! don't u think we would need to make a some sort of agreement that others (99% of WCG) would follow?! ![]() Where is the list of the 1%? maybe someone who is better in programming (only a mechanical engineer here) can get that list from WCG data?! Enjoy. if you mean this: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=forum#441 than NO! proof of that: if I was pursuing that, u would have every new quote in a new post...so this one could easily make me 3-4 posts...nope, not pursuing that! ![]() Klik, I think where you are coming from, but everybody crunches in their own way and changes things according to what they want to achieve. I have learnt a lot from them and as I have become older, have been able to spend more cash on this project. well, where I come from (business or otherwise), elders & successful people have a job & duty to show others how it's done...& they sit behind a table & make an agreement which benefits all of them! without that, we can't grow...it would be just a bunch of individuals without a clear goal... example: - now I pursue OET & UGM research ONLY! giving others a way to catch their badges...but that also means I don't share my computational power with other finishing projects! - but if we (TOP 1% of crunchers) agree on selecting projects withing a 1 month of completion...then I will also select FA@h & MCM research, so that science can be finished sooner! where did I get the idea? here, this post made me think about it: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=501353 so I'm happy to play my part in agreement, if everyone is also willing...& WCG with their projects is only at benefit here! ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 5 times, last edit by KLiK at Sep 9, 2015 6:35:41 AM] |

But who cares if a project that has 1 month left gets completed in 15 days instead of 30? The scientists probably won't analyse that last data within several months/probably years to come.

we are the BEST of the BEST...a TOP 1% of WCG! Sorry to rain on your parade, but no, you're not the best because you are in the top 1%. It is greatly appreciated that the big contributors donate so much crunch power, but that doesn't make them any better that the rest of the contributors (the other 99%). don't u think we would need to make a some sort of agreement that others (99% of WCG) would follow?! No, I don't think so. It has already been discussed ad nauseam that people crunch what they want to crunch. You can't/don't tell them what to crunch nor how to crunch. well, where I come from (business or otherwise), This is not a business. This is an altruistic donation of CPU time (and electricity) to a noble cause(s). You don't tell people how or what to donate.Again, I suggest (like I did in a previous post) that you organize a challenge(s) for the reasons you are looking for. CJSL Crunching for a better world... |

First of all, You get to the TOP 1% of the leader board...& see how much EFFORT does it take to actually DO IT! How much money for the computers, equipment & electric bill does it take to actually do it... & only then I'll hear anything what you want to say in THIS TOPIC...otherwise, for all of my knowledge - you are just compensating lack of computational power with many messages to get some more status ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=501353 )! & btw, I'm not telling anyone how to donate... what I'm trying to do is make a "democratic vote & argument" among the TOP 1% of crunchers World wide...so whatever most of us agree on doing & how we agree on doing it - I'll follow! maybe that is strange to you...but probably it's a "lost art" in Italy after Berlusconi regime? ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Sep 9, 2015 7:13:23 PM] |

KLiK,
This whole thread is an embarrassment. Neither you nor I are nearly as knowledgeable about WCG and Boinc as cjslman and a myriad of others who contribute to this forum. Runtime, points and results are not a good indicator of a crunchers knowledge. Your claim to know which crunchers are better than others has been met with universal disdain. Please drop this effort of yours to try to control how we crunch. |
