Eddieate, any luck getting all cores to crunch? If not, a few thoughts...
1) Are the BOINC cpu settings configured to "On multiprocessor systems, use at most 100% of the processors"? 2) Did you run the Odroid Updater? |

Yes I did both of those. I'm working shift at the moment so haven't had much time to mess about with it. Will try to get up early tomorrow and have another look.

So I updated again to be sure the other day and left it running for a bit. It's uploaded 1 result from native BOINC, I can tell as the hostname is 'xu3' not 'android'.
But now it doesn't seem to be getting new tasks. I think it might be time to stop buggering about with this and order some Xeons like I was going to before I saw the octa-core dev boards. |

I've got normal boinc crunching OK now. I'm just going to leave it crunching like that for now.

Digging up an old thread, I know, but I ordered an xu4 last week to tinker with. It should arrive tomorrow, and I have already ordered an aftermarket heatsink and cooling fan for it. I have read several posts in the odroid forums about heat being an issue on these while running 100% and throttling the CPU, so I want to try to keep it as cool as possible. I am also thinking of making it my new media streamer for the living room tv (netflix and prime, pretty much) so noise factor was involved in getting the new fan/heatsink combo. I have the 4.4.4 odroid release and gapps downloaded and ready to go, and plan on running it off a 16GB UHS1 micro SD. Not as fast as eMMC, but I also had the SD card already so it didn't cost anything.
Do any of the odroid gurus out there have any words of wisdom? Anything that is a must have for accessories? I have thought about ordering the game controller from the ameridroid site, but at $40, it seems a little steep and I don't even know if it works with all (or any) of the games in the play store. |

It is a great little system. I can run mine at 100% cpu usage in 80 (f) degree room without overheating, while leaving the top of the plastic case off and using a secondary fan to move air around the unit.
Installed updates + NativeBoinc and I was (finally) operational. It has been running for 253 days and has earned about 2.2 million points so far. Let us know how it goes! |

Hi Alec,
I set up the odroid last weekend. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, as it took Android a long time to boot the first time (probably close to 10 minutes until I saw anything on the screen). When Ubuntu 15.10 worked, I went back to Android and this time let it sit a while. It is now running 24/7 since Saturday afternoon, and it is doing well. I replaced the stock heatsink and fan (pitiful heatsink and loud fan, I might add) and it is much quieter now. I did not buy a case for it, as I didn't want it to be hotter in the case. The temps seem to be about the same as the old hs/fan combo, but I used the original thermal pad that was on the old set. I may go back and pull it off and use thermal grease instead of the pad. I have it set up on a 720P 32" tv for the time being, and the overscan I can't seem to figure out how to remove. (tried odroid tools like in the youtube videos and it doesnt work). For now it is running headless. I actually found a box for it and mounted it into the box. Cut holes in either side and mounted 120mm fans in a push/pull design so it is getting LOTS of air to keep cool. 120s are waaaay overkill, but I had them laying around. 80mm fans would have been more than enough. Looking forward to having more time to tinker with it in the near future. |
