biggrin Taking Advantage of Facebook

I think the grid would get a lot more members by implementing some of the features offered by Facebook. An option to share newly earned badges and research accomplishments and the ability to use your Facebook login to log onto WC-Grid are just a few ideas that come to mind.

Unfortunately WCG got in a wrangle with the FB demi-gods, so now it sends the badge notifications to members via Twitter. Go to settings and take the option in the left bar https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewNewsPreference.action

There is an FB page though where the various information on events is shared with the world at: https://www.facebook.com/worldcommunitygrid.org

Just seen there that 'our' Computing for Clean Water project is featured in National Geographic. I'd call that a milestone [Let me see if the Italian issue brings it too].

Re: Taking Advantage of Facebook

Ah, that's odd. Posting badge earnings doesn't seem to line up with what Facebook considers spam to be. Why doesn't WC-Grid work with Facebook and limit the posts to a acceptable amount? Even limited posts would be nice.

Re: Taking Advantage of Facebook

The critical issue that we got in trouble for was the automated posting (without human interaction before the posting happened). Since the messages were very similar, Facebook's automated mechanisms shut us down. We tried to work with them, but they don't have a phone number you can call to talk to someone.

Re: Taking Advantage of Facebook

To be a little more specific - if you look at https://developers.facebook.com/policy/ and the section 2 you can see how we ran a foul of their rules. Although we obtained consent for the messages we posted, Facebook wants high user interaction with content posted. As a result, the notion of auto-posting based on external events is not in compliance with that section of the policy.
