Cloud Computing: Recommendations? Warnings?

I am trying to buff up my output before MCM ends so I've taken to the world of cloud computing to see I can get my daily average up. I've used the free trials of Google and Amazon but don't need 1 gig per vCPU and in the search for a better price I found a member on this site recommended Vexxhost. I got a 4CPU virtual server and it worked well enough for a few days so I bought a few more. Then it basically dropped output to zero. Their tech support said I was a power user and their cores are shared so throttling measures were set against me resulting in multiple WUs passing their due dates with "no reply"; 24/7 dropped to 4~6 hours every few days at best. Doing some digging a post from 2011 says they have "a 2% average daily utilization limit" which seems absurd.

I didn't drop too much money, trying to get a refund but after doing some searches (too late on my part, I know) I am doubtful I'll see any of it come back.

Google's "micro" and "small" options are more in my price range but the output must be bad to be named micro or small. Yeah run time is nice but am unsure what the output will be as they don't list GHz for any of their products.

Can I get some recommendations or warning with using cloud servers? Is my experience with throttling common? Are all sites other than HP, Google, Amazon disreputable? I've been searching for reviews on various companies offering cloud services but most reviews are multiple years old.

I have a free trial running on IBM bluemix. I have four ubuntu vm running 24/7. They are two core each.

Also have a few vm running at Google. The preempt able vm's are much less expensive but you have to baby sit them.

Re: Cloud Computing: Recommendations? Warnings?

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm currently trying out wholesaleinternet and we'll see how it goes.

I should also give an update and say Vexxhost did refund me. Surfing various online forums people have complained of not getting refunds so I need to mention they did not scam me. They weren't very professional (I can give a list) but their tech support was fast and courteous so that went a long way. I simply needed cores to run 24/7 and that isn't their main service and I'm really happy for how things winded down. In the end no complaints.

Re: Cloud Computing: Recommendations? Warnings?

Enjoying wholesaleinternet.net but their list of dedicated servers just got cut down. Sales replied to my query and said they are going to machines with less HDD and RAM options (looks like no options for changing what the machine comes with) which also means less threads per until (maxed at 8 threads per machine now). I still have a 24 thread box that I started a few weeks ago and it will remain supported.

Their prices are good, tech support is fast, they take Paypal (as I don't have a US bank account this helps me tremendously) and have ordered another box to play with. Would recommend it.

If anyone else has recommendations or warning please feel free to add them.

Re: Cloud Computing: Recommendations? Warnings?

We used these before to good effect (not boinc) with heavy load and no issues.

Cheapest dedicated I could find at the time:
