Re: OET performance on Android devices

My solution,
I just quit looking at my phone.
Leave it at home plugged in.
If I ignore it, I imagine it's crunching better,
every few days I check device stats and see if it's doing anything.

That is the problem Jack. It doesn't work if you don't look at it. d oh Although I deleted BOINC from my mobile device, I left it installed on an old phone that is plugged in 24x7. I just checked it and it was doing NOTHING. There were 8 completed OET jobs that started uploading as soon as I looked at the phone. The client had just restarted 10 minutes earlier, so I don't know what its been doing or for how long it was goofing off. 6 minutes later it finally downloaded 9 more WUs to chew on.

Cheers coffee

Re: OET performance on Android devices

I also got message that no OET is ready!

& now, not enough room for OET or FA@h...something to do with Android stupidity of only 1GB per data...have to reconfigure the boot to use 2GB! confused

Re: OET performance on Android devices

A lot of this is simply agreeing with what has already been said, but I want to reiterate for the WCG techs for emphasis.

I just switched my Androids over from FAAH and have to agree with NixChix: what is the point of crunching OET on Android (where the whole idea is to crunch overnight while you aren't using your device) when the WUs take 8-15+ hours with only 8 checkpoints?

The only solution I've found is to crunch 24/7 which means letting the device drain battery during commutes and then be plugged in all day at work. This really isn't a practical use of a mobile device and can cause heat issues during the commute and recharge.

I'm not sure why this was allowed out of Beta in its current state. All future projects with Android crunching need either more frequent checkpointing or quicker WUs (basically, just like FAHV).

I fully agree.

I have 7 Android cores running "full time" and around 20 Android cores running "partial time". The average total run time for FAAH was 300 hours/day, but now for OET is 200, maybe even less. The checkpointing is really annoying especially on my 8 core (7 cores running official BOINC) phone.

Now I have to run OET since there are no more WUs from FAAH, and no other biology science app.

One mtk is on ouzo, the other on retsina ;P

(A topic that so decomposed, only the bones are left, will not be forwarded to the agent dev team... wasting my time, wasting everyone's time to do so, as the messages are auto-round archived. Until WCG indicate it will do something, that's the status quo AFAIC) [/ot]

Re: OET performance on Android devices

The Samsung Galaxy S6 don't receive any wu from WCG while the LG G4 receive them normally. Both have a ARM arch64 processor but the S6 can't download anything. What is the problem?

Re: OET performance on Android devices

Hello Alessio Susi,
Welcome to the forums. hugs Check the device client log to see if it sheds any light on why it is not downloading any work. I found I had to tinker with some of the default settings to get some of my devices to crunch.

If you cannot determine what's wrong, post waht you see in a new thread to be sure you get attention. You might need to post your question in the Android Support Forum . Be sure to state which of the many BOINC client's you are using.

Cheers coffee
