We have recently updated the application version for Windows and Linux platforms to 7.28. This updates includes minor modifications to the I/O of the applicatioin which may result in slight performance increase for some users. The current version for the OS X platform remains 7.23.
Thanks, armstrdj |

Odd. Data downloads seem to (very roughly) obey the bandwidth restriction I have set, but the application downloads seemed to fly down at very high speed. Is that a problem with the client or the server?

Any way to force the update?
Mine are still running 7.23. I tried hitting the update button in BOINC, to no success. Thank you, WCG Techs, for everything. |

Is that a problem with the client or the server? Neither. The data files are already compressed, but the executable files are uncompressed. The executables are compressed on the fly so that is why their speed looks higher when in reality it is still controlled by the restriction. |

Updates are applying to new work, which is the point when the new version is -automatically- downloaded. Work is version locked -mostly- for compatibility reasons... slightest differences could occur in the output files, which is when validations could fall over. In cases where a new version produces a identical output file, it does not matter if repairs/wingman process with a different version than earlier returns. Dependents what the techs have configured to happen. (Oh dear, there was something that caused feeder clogging in past in these situations, but can't remember what at this time ). |

I am more than a little confused, I am running WCG version 7.2.47, when I go to download, the version showing is 7.2.47 (the same as I am running).
It is noticed that this thread is in Active Research/Uncovering Genome Mysteries. So it may be a point that is too esoteric for us mere mortals. Please can you enlighten me. Confused of Tunbridge Wells. ![]() |

The new version 7.28 is that of the programs which run Uncovering Genome Mysteries science. The BOINC version 7.2.47 is the program which controls the running of the science applications.

domonijo, you are talking about the BOINC code level. We are talking about the UGM code level.
BOINC is the "operating system" that supervises the various scientific tasks. WCG currently recommends the 7.2.47 version. That is the code that you downloaded. UGM is one of science applications. Each of the science applications has a code version number of its own as well. The version number is shown at the start of the application name when you look at the list of tasks. For UGM this has just been updated from 7.23 to 7.28. The first time BOINC on your computer acquires a UGM task that needs the new code level that code will be downloaded automagically by BOINC. You need do nothing. Hope that helps! |

Thank you all for your replies, I now see what is meant by the application code level. Having scrolled through the tasks that have been downloaded, I have seen there are some tasks that say they are 7.28, so I do not need to do anything.
Again thank you for your explanations. I am now Enlightened of Tunbridge Wells. ![]() |
