--Solved--"New system time (xxxxxx) < old system time (xxxxxxx) ; clearing time outs"

Hi everyone,

I am not sure what this means in the log. here is the full text of the lines in question.

4/22/2015 8:59:38 AM | | New system time (1429707481) < old system time (1429707579); clearing timeouts
4/22/2015 8:59:39 AM | World Community Grid | Task E230162_338_S.300.C41H54.UROJIVMZKFPVKZ-UHFFFAOYSA-N.5_s1_14_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
4/22/2015 8:59:39 AM | World Community Grid | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

Anyone can tell me what i need to do/worry about it? Also, to be noted is that the WU is still running and has a few hrs left of crunching. What exactly does "resetting" the project means?

Thanks

Re: "New system time (xxxxxx) < old system time (xxxxxxx) ; clearing time outs"

To BOINC and timekeeping, the system clock is everything. If the clock changes by more than a minute [e.g. the periodic automatic internet atomclock aligning], timekeeping gets upset. Bad battery or poor voltage stability can lead to erratic time changes.

For New system time (1429707481) < old system time (1429707579). This looks like a fast clock by 98 seconds since the previous adjustment. Question is: How often is your system clock aligned?

If this is one time, ignore, if this happens more often [just as the log says], it may be fixed by project resetting. Unfortunately though 'exited with zero status' is a catch-all for multiple timekeeping issues [The FAQ I linked to in another recent thread explains them all, but maybe the poor system timekeeping... I don't remember ;o]

What exactly does "resetting" the project means?

Click on the projects tab in BOINC manager. Click on the wcg project to highlight it. On the left will be a tab which says "Reset Project". Click on it and that is all there is to it. Any jobs you have currently running will be aborted so you may want to wait until all the current jobs are finished.

Cheers

Does not follow what the topic is about >>>> System timekeeping ;>). The last time you reported same, you never got back to the question if they eventually did validate, which 100% of 'valid' results always do, sooner or later, no matter what. Latest a test is forced by the system when the deadline expires, and again when the No Reply copy is not returned, and so on and so on :o)

Re: "New system time (xxxxxx) < old system time (xxxxxxx) ; clearing time outs"

I want to say first... thanks for the support guys.

I did the project reset that I was told to do, but i am still getting the "new system time" + "clearing timeouts" and the CEP exiting with a zero status message while such task is still running.

I have my pc system time set to auto-update with an internet time server. Could that be generating the problem? Are they two separate problems?

Thanks for the help.

Best,

GAT

Re: "New system time (xxxxxx) < old system time (xxxxxxx) ; clearing time outs"

Hello everyone,

I think I have found a solution to my problem. In addition to resetting the WCG I have rebooted the desktop that was having system timing issues. That appears to have solved the problem of the constant system time getting ahead or behind.

I guess it had been some time sisnce i restaretd that machine.

In any case I apprcited the help.
