Ok a odd one this that I have just noticed, wondering if its normal?
----------------------------------------So today I installed a GPU in my rig and ran Collatz on it, I figured that dropping the CPU usage to 2 cores out of 4 would free up more than enough CPU time for the GPU. However firing it up the GPU was showing odd numbers, never maxing out ect. So I look in task manager and I see that there are 2 WCG processes going but each is using 40% CPU time. I thought that one unit used one core and no more so how can a unit be using 40% CPU time? Just two units were nearly maxing out my quad core chip, very odd? Is this normal? ![]() |

I would say on my other machine that has a 6 core 12 thread CPU all seems fine on there, 9 units is taking up just under 80% cpu load.

You have a very special quad and/or a very special Windows. On mine the WCG worker process never-ever shows more than 25% [times 4 is 100% of overall CPU load]. On my octo the WCG process never-ever shows more than a rounded 13% [12.5% really, times 8 is 100% overall CPU load].
In a combined cc/app_config [See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml for possibilities], you can set how much the GPGPU process is allowed of the CPU... some are pretty NCI [Non-CPU intense], so much so that during the HCC GPGPU phase, members were able to set 4-8 to use a single CPU thread. No idea what Collatz uses of the CPU, but I'm rejecting the conjecture as being my times worth ![]() |

Seems to be a collatz issue, running Einstin it seems to work as expected, guess ill just run other projects on that GPU :)
----------------------------------------WCG is still taking up more CPU time than I would expect : https://i.imgur.com/4BFl0sF.png CPU is a i5 4590T ![]() |

W8.1 I'm guessing. Together with the running WCG task there's only 3 BOINC processes running. Maybe the OS is allocating unused cycles, from maybe your CPU being hyperthreaded, but CPUBoss says it's not. [The Einstein have each half a CPU allocated]. Tested it on my octo, allowing only 7 BOINC processes and low/behold, the 12.5 jumped to 13.6% [Total 95]. Never knew and looking under the Performance tab, see total 96% being used, including system.

Weird, yea my CPU is not hyperthreaded, tried running one unit on my 12 thread CPU here and it hit 11% CPU usage, must be a oddity of Windows I guess.

No Tengo la culpa
Don't hesitate to use more words to describe your problem. Much appreciated. This 26/10/2015 9:31:15 | | Suspending computation - CPU is busy 26/10/2015 9:31:26 | | Resuming computation Is a default setting suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25% , if your computer is 'Too' busy, BOINC pauses. You can increase this to 50 or 75%, or disable by setting the value to 0, but this means that you could start noticing BOINC is running while using the computer. |

Your 4590T has a base of 2 GHz and turbos up to 3 GHz. This may show up as greater than 100% in task manager.
